I find the new tools (X-series, platinum) to be weird and awkward and requiring a great deal of mouse clicking, function key tapping.  One simple fix might let me use them as I wish:  make the Alternate Functions CONFIGURABLE.   For me, I want the "Draw" mode to draw, and Edit (change position, change length, change start time).   I DON'T want it to Erase, ever.   Others may have different work habits.    If the "smart" tool were just a bit brighter, I'd configure it to make a note with a click, NOT with a drag.   It's a constant drag to correct the approximate placement of notes that I intend to go specifically one place and only one place.
