I am trying to open an OMF file, but when I do it starts loading then causes SONAR to close. I downloaded the latest update of SONAR so have SONAR Producer 2016.03, Windows 10. The OMF file contains about 70 dialogue clips. Any suggestions?

This is why I bought Pro Tools. I open OMF's / AAF's in PT and then re-export and open in Sonar to edit.
Expensive :(

I apologize but I have no answer. Only questions.

What program was used to create the OMF?

Have you had problems running normal project files in S Pro?

Have you opened OMF files in the past without problems?

When opening an OMF SONAR pops up a nag screen for Title, bit depth, sample rate etc... Have you gotten to that screen or does SONAR close before that?

Again apologies, but I have not had problems opening OMF's. Maybe the OMF was embedded with AIF audio files (or whatever the apple extension is, I forget) instead of WAV. ?

Anyway, Buying PT is a personal choice. But it does seem to be an expensive method for opening projects in SONAR. The whole point of OMF is cross-platform compatibility.

Thanks for comments. No problems with normal projects, but I seem to be doing more stuff for video lately.
I have found my answer to the crash. SONAR crashed when it couldn't find all the audio files. I thought I had it pointed to the Audio file directory correctly but I found if I let it search and find the audio files then it would have the correct path. I haven't gone back to see what/if was wrong with the path when I selected it manually. Now that the path is correct it is loading the OMF files fine.
I have a new issue now. The video editor sent OMF with hundreds of clips of dialogue and effects audio starting at 26 minutes. I can not move the video from minute 1 to minute 26 using the media foundation engine and can't seem to switch to the DirectShow engine although have tried editing the config file as said in Cakewalk documentation.
Suggestions welcome!

as a side note, OMF has not been developed or supported actively for many years. Avid moved to AAF (Advanced Authoring Format ) many years ago as the primary way to exchange projects between different systems. It is open rather than proprietary SDK and is supported by many companies and standards bodies (currently going through SMPTE's standards process).
Check out http://www.amwa.tv/index.shtml
https://sourceforge.net/projects/aaf/
http://aaf.sourceforge.net

in the Sonar supported formats list, neither OMF nor AAF is listed BTW

Instead of creating an OMF file, could you not just bounce/export all tracks as broadcast WAV files with SMPTE timestamps and then enable "Preferences/Audio Data/Always Import Broadcast Waves At Their Timestamp" in Sonar and drag & drop all files to Sonar?

If you search the forum, myself and a few others have heavily troubleshooted this issue and proved there is a problem but sadly it hasn't really been addressed by the bakers.

Theres always hope tho.

For the OP, is this a "one time thing" or something you will be doing fairly often? If one-time, some video editors have fully functional trials available. If you anticipate doing this fairly often, you may want to look into another application to support as mentioned above (most video editors can also open OMF/AAF files).
