  • How To Have 2 Synths Play From One MIDI Track (p.2)

I am curious to Konrad's point as well but wanted to test this, as I *thought* a synth with MIDI output enabled allows the data in the track to fire any synth listening to that channel with Input Echo enabled. Is that not true?

How do you set a synth input? I'm only aware of pointing a track to a synth, not the other way around.

Every soft synth exposes one or more unique virtual MIDI IN ports to SONAR, and these ports are available to be assigned as the Output of a MIDI track. But the track Output can only be assigned to one synth's IN. So you have to have at least one MIDI track per synth. Multiple tracks can have their Inputs assigned to the same source, but each can output to only one destination.

If one of the synths can echo MIDI input to a virtual OUT, then you could use that to drive the second synth, but you would still need another track to route the MIDI. There's no way to assign the input of a synth directly to the output of another.

I wonder how easy it would be for the bakers to implement a virtual MIDI THRU port (I remember the hardware versions of these in the late 80's) without having to use third party MIDI routing tools.

Maybe they could implement some kind of MIDI send

Patch points and aux tracks work for audio, couldn't the same model be applied to MIDI routing?  (oft mentioned as a feature request)

How hard would it be to implement a midi track having multiple output options??
I've often had to clone a track just to double up.
It's not a big deal as this step is super easy and linking the tracks has always worked for me, but it would be nice to have the option of more than one output too.

It was hinted that at some later date patch points for MIDI data might be added.  But it has never been confirmed/promised/committed to.  Perhaps all of Cakewalk's development resources are being spent on yet another EQ and multi-band compressor.

Has anyone submitted a feature request for this, er, feature?
