  • Snap to Grid in Track view not working?

I don't seem to remember this being a problem in the past, but this morning, I created a new project, copied in some MIDI, mucked around a bit, and ... no snap in the Track View.

It's a simple project, 3 Midi tracks, no audio, created using the Jazz Trio template.

I can't get the Snap Options dialog to show up in the Track View, either by clicking the down arrow on the snap button in the toolbar or through the Ruler submenu.

However, snap (and options) does work in the Piano Roll View window, but not the embedded PR in the Track view.

Can anyone offer insight?

Thanks.

Maybe the snap window got moved off screen. Have you saved and re-opened? What about other projects?

Yes, I did try re-opening Sonar, and using another project...No joy.

Snap is working in other projects, so it must be the snap settings are different in the new project, but I still can't get the dialog up, so I can't see what they are, in any project.

As far as offscreen, I thought of that too. I use 2 monitors, and I've tried all manner of moving windows around. I still can't see the settings dialog from the Track View. Where could it be? Is there a way to reset it's position?

This is a very strange bug.

It would help if we knew which version of SONAR you are talking about.

In S6 the snap settings not only have different Snap strengths but also different options of what to snap to.

Sometimes having many snap options selected will give the program the ability to snap to other objects and make it appear that Snap isn't working at all.

Don't know this is the answer, but in the registry:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\SONAR Producer\6.0\SnapDlg

is where you can find LastX and LastY settings which I assume are screen coordinates. If you set them to zero and still don't see it, then the problem is not that it's offscreen. Mine are set to 500 and 329.

check out the magnetic properties of the snap to grid in its properties box.

dstrenz,

Bingo!

The LastX value was a negative number -- Good call.

Thanks very much and thanks to all who tried to help. Richard Brian guessed the problem, also.

There should be a repository for this kind of information, don't you think?

I'll post the solution to my problem as a separate topic, and see if someone picks it up and adds it to their FAQs somewhere. I know there's a Sonar WIKI; perhaps whomever manages it will be interested.

It's probably best if you start a new thread and list everything about your system.
