I'm am getting really fed up with the problems I am encountering with Sonar Platinum! I have used X1 and X3 before with no interface problems at all! So I looked at the company hype and decided to upgrade to Platinum at the beginning of December. I also upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 about the same time.
From the outset I started to experience connection problems with my interface (Cakewalk UA-25EX....USB) which I have tried to solve by re-installing the driver, changing setting on the interface and in Sonar etc etc...
Using Producer X3, which is still installed, causes no problems whatsoever, so any arguments about the driver not being supported by Windows 10 seems to be barking up the wrong tree? I can't un-install Windows 10 as I've gone pass the time slot for this (didn't know there was one until it was too last to revert back to the very good Windows 7) !
So basically, I paid for a piece of software that is far too problematic to be of any use, and now feel that i will not buy any Sonar product again because it's not worth the trouble!

As a last resort, I'm wondering if anyone out there has experienced issues similar to mine and if indeed someone somewhere has found a magical cure??

Here's hoping...

Calm down.  I understand your frustration, I get like that, too, when things don't work like they should.  But, 99% of the time, someone here will figure it out and you'll feel like a jackass for getting too emotional.  :)

According to Roland's web site the UA-25EX will automatically download win 10 drivers from the internet. Did this happen?

You need to describe the nature of the problem. Does it not show up as an eligible audio device? Does SONAR see it, but you can't get audio back and forth? Do you realize that Platinum may have different defaults from X3 and these would need to be tweaked?

It's obvious SONAR can talk to USB audio interfaces, or this forum would be filled with people carrying torches and pitchforks. Bear in mind that the installation process for Roland interfaces is very specific. It may have been necessary to completely uninstall the previous driver before re-installing...you may have done that, but we don't know.

Many problems with USB audio connections getting lost are due to Windows, not the audio device driver or Sonar. If, as is commonly the case, the issue is with power settings cutting off the USB connection after a time out, you may have to use the device with X3 for a fairly long time to reproduce the issue. I have seen a couple of reports about Windows 10 not behaving as expected when power options are set via the Win 10 interface. This article gives instructions on how to examine and change the actual power option setting in the registry, which may be useful.

I too had problems with W10, and when I reverted back to W7 they all vanished.  I'm not a techie so I can't really offer you any advice other than to hang tough with this forum.  The guys here have sorted out every problem I've ever had with Sonar.  Good luck to you!!

Based on your description of the issue as it stands you really need to contact Cakewalk technical support. This should not be happening so without further details I don't think anyone here can isolate the problem.

It's screwy and if it happened to me I would be frustrated as well but when things stop making any kind of sense (which is most definitely what's going on here) I call support. You paid for support... take advantage of it.

To be honest... I'm going to guess it has something to do with your "Cakewalk" interface. Call me a cynical bastard but I prefer to let the software makers make my software and the hardware manufacturers to make my hardware.

My Focusrite works just fine with both X3 and SPlat.

I am however squatting on Win7 for now and may only install Win10 on my DAW on a partition just in case.

Good luck... and call support.

Cheers.

I too believe we can collectively work through the issues you are currently experiencing with Platinum, IF you are willing to be engaged in the process of working through them.

There are quite a few folks in these forums who will bend over backwards to assist you with whatever is going on.

Whatever path you choose - I wish you the best, and that you are able to come to or return to a place where you can be productive with music production.

I DO hope you choose to give us a shot at getting you past whatever the issues are - and for that, the best way to approach them is to launch a separate thread for each issue, so that we don't end up with a bunch of confusing and intertwined 'gick'.  This way, it is easier to read, to associate responses to specific issues, etc.....

I also just upgraded to Windows 10. I too am having troubles. In my case it seems to be buffering problems. I am getting pops and crackles even when playing a single wave file (Regardless of the buffer setting I choose). This did not happen in Windows 8.1.

The UA-25EX. is a Roland product and for Windows 10 you need to uninstall any drivers you installed. Unplug it from the USB port and then plug it back in. Windows 10 will update its driver automatically.

Below is from the Roland site.
This contains information on the UA-25EX (Advanced mode) driver compatible with Microsoft Windows 10.

Driver for Windows 10

Your computer automatically downloads the Windows(R) 10 driver from the Internet when a product requiring the driver is connected to the computer.
For detailed information about the driver, check "Download File" at the bottom of this page.

* Under normal conditions, the driver installation is completed in several minutes. It may take about 10 minutes depending on the Internet connectivity or if there are other drivers being installed for other devices.
* A problem may have occurred if the device is connected but cannot be used after waiting for 10 minutes. Download the detailed information for the driver and refer to "Troubleshooting."
