  • Tempo change and automation...

I know this has been covered, but in my search I couldn't find what I was looking for...

I have an old project, all audio, and now I want to change the tempo. I have all clips slip edited to the beginning of the project, so they stay in sync with everything else when I change tempo... that works fine.

But, track envelopes and plugin automation does not seem to change with tempo. Is there some way I can have my track automation follow my tempo change?

Thanks!

I believe you can do it with audiosnap..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JeCxGOo5yc&feature=PlayList&p=830B16E40952C467&index=10

I am not sure if it supports tempo changes within a project..

ctrl-a to select all tracks
F12 to enable audio-snap
now in that audio-snap-configuration box.. on the very left side.. there are 4 buttons.. press the right button ( <-->)!!
now you can just apply a new tempo like you have seen on the video..

playback may sound a bit weird, but after you export it.. it sounds pretty good..
exporting a projects with audiosnap and tempochanges enabled takes quite a bit of time

Well, I don't want to change any audio playback speed. Basically, it was a live recording so the tempo was left at 100bpm. Now I want to use midi at 166bpm without changing the audio speed or placement. All of my audio is fine, and all clip envelopes are fine, but track envelopes and plugin automation (which acts like track envelopes) don't change with tempo, they seem to be time based only.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks frank!

You could try a cal script that changes tempo, and extend it so (if it doesn't already) it includes reformatting the automation as well.

maybe just rework one of these, and check other scripts to see how to handle the automation, and add that.

Meh, on second thought I'm beginning to wonder if the type automation you can change with .cal scripts covers *all* sonar automation, or I'm missing something here, it looks like it's limited to midi-automation only.

The only way I can think of is to convert all the time values of the nodes between 100bpm and 166bpm, then go in and change all the nodes manually. Fun, fun, fun. Especially if your project has lots of automation. It could literally take days or weeks to do. Maybe someone else has an actual helpful solution...

Don't know if this is old news for you folks, but I'll throw it in anyway:

It seems that track envelopes on audio tracks can be processed with the "Length..." command only, if "stretch audio" is checked in the dialog. So to stretch all track envelopes, select all, edit > select > by filter, click "none", check "shapes" in the "special events" section, yada yada... Alternatively lock all clips before stretching.

With multiple tempo changes this might get tricky though. I think I can feel a feature request coming...

Perahps "Length" command is only available when only midi tracks are selected... so it doesn't works.
