title says it all.

Split
no matter what tool i select, i can't split a clip. yes, S is bound to Split at Now Time. doesn't work. i hold alt, the clipper comes up, i highlight a section and click or hit S, nothing happens. if i highlight a portion of a clip to split and then press S, it puts a split somewhere else in the clip.
Nudge
i select a clip. i try to nudge a clip using the numeric keypad, 1,4,7,3,6,9, a cross arrowed cursor moves on a track 4 tracks down. with numlock on i get home and end. trying to use process, nudge, left 1, x1 crashes and can't be shut down with task mgr, the computer must be restarted.

i repeated this several times: open a project, select a clip, go to process, nudge, left1, crash, must restart.

any ideas?

For nudge there are 2 things to consider on a Nudge left/
    1. The clip can not start all the way to the left Eg. 1.1.000
    2. You can not have the track selected or the time line will begin at 1.1.00 so make sure just the clip is selected.

For splitting turn off the Snap to grid if you are not wanting to use it which is perhaps why it is splitting at different point.  There are various options for splitting.
    1. Select the clip, select the point on the time line and hit S
    2. With smart tool Right click on the wrench/(spanner) and select the split tool.  Left clicking with it on a selected clip will split at the the point you click.
    3. If you want to split out a section select the section in the time line with the clip selected, right click the clip and select Split - Split at selection.

thanks. after three restarts, i got split to work with the alt method, it didn't before.

as far as nudge, nada by keyboard. not at the beginning, the minute i click on a clip the track is selected. crash by menu...

One more split option - alt-smarttool. Cursor should change to scissors once the mouse is moved slightly.

Check your Preferences - Customization - Snap and Nudge.(advanced has to be checked at the bottom)
In the nudge dialogues.
Should likely be using either Ticks or Milliseconds.  If it had been set to musical time it defaults to measure so that is where your problem could be coming from

For example I have mine set as follows
Nudge 1 Absolute time 1 Ticks
Nudge 2 Absolute time 2 Ticks
Nudge 3 Absolute time 3 Ticks

I've had problems with splitting clips also.

I would click on the clip to highlight it, set the timeline to where I want the split, right click, tell it to split, and nothing. I even checked my undo history to see if it maybe split a different clip other than the one I was working on and there was no split in the history.

As for nudging, I haven't tried that yet, I'm afraid to. I just zoom in real close and drag the clip manually.

All these little bugs are really getting old. I'm REALLY getting sick of this.

Split works just fine but one needs to know how to split. There are numerous ways to split a clip. The easiest for those that are not into the smart tool is click the wrench tool and then right click on it to select split. This gives you a scissors too and keeps that wayl. A single click with it at the spot you want and a split occurs.

The fast way is with the smart tool simply use alt with placing the tool at or near the bottom of the point where on the clip you want to split. A scissors tool will appear and you do your split. There are other ways to split as well.

Nudge, One needs to be sure nudge is on in the preferences then be sure you have the num lock on and use the appropriate keys on the num pad keys to do your nudge. Its that simple.

What I find odd is people commenting on how something doesn't work without knowing how to do it. This is a new phenomenon on this board   that needs to stop. Neither split nor nudge is broken or buggy. They both work just as they are supposed to.

Not sure what to tell you to help you with your denial that X1 is in fact messed up in many ways John. I'm also not sure what to do to help you with your dictator syndrome either other than remind you this is not your forum and we can and will say any thing we want to short of violating any rules set forth by Cakewalk, not you. You're not an administrator, or even someone who remotely keeps the forum afloat, so please, stop telling people what they can and cannot do. Please.

I've been working with clips since around 2000. I think I got a pretty good grip on how to do it. I've only ever used Cakewalk/Sonar so I completely understand how to right click on a clip, click on 'split' and then click 'ok'.

All I can tell you is, in the project I'm working on in X1 currently, sometimes when I try to split a clip, nothing happens, and there is no record of it in undo.

Split is 100% definitely buggy. I can't speak for the nudge function because I haven't used it in X1 yet. But I do know how to use it, because I have used it extensively in the past. I'll test it, and if I find that it's not working correctly, I will come back to this thread and +1 the OP.

Too strange Bub. I just spent a couple of hours tonight on refining a lead vocal with numerous splits and not one hiccup in X1. I use to get this behavior however in 8.5.3 where I would click for the split and nothing would happen. It was like program was not getting focus at the point I was working. Often wondered if some VST was having an issue in the background and stealing focus.

Also nudge is working fine as well. Had a series of parallel parts that need nudging just a few milliseconds. Every one worked flawlessly. Not saying you are not having problems but it's interesting the range of of issues people are having.

I'm not finding it odd anymore. Fact is that some people are finding it buggy while some of us are not having issues.

There but for someone's grace go I....
