I own a Korg Kontrol49. It's awesome in controlling VST instruments....  For both (VST instruments & VST plugins) I'd choose above mentioned Novation Remote SL.

Some interesting ideas there. I've already got a collection of nice keyboards (I'm mainly a keyboard player) but I appreciate the suggestions anyway.

If I could take the liberty of asking just a couple more MCU questions:

    1) What does the touch-sensitive abilitles of the faders enable you to do? Mine seem to to nothing in this regard. For example, the Alphatrack, as soon as you put your finger on its fader, updates the display to show the value of the current parameter being edited (usually gain) and I thought the MCU would do the same, but mine does nothing and in fact, in multi-channel mode, there only seems to be one way to display the gain. Is  this how it should be?

Which leads me onto:

    2) How can you get the display to show track gain in multi-channel mode, other than by assigning the v-pots to volume?

1. They make the track the active one when you touch that channels fader without having to actually move it, and also allow you to over ride automation. If you ever use something that isn't touch sensitive and try fighting the automation you'll see what I mean.

2. You can't but you can turn on the channel meters. Not the same I know but better than nothing I guess. Er...... now you're going to ask how to turn on the meters, and I'm not at my DAW and can't remember. I think it's one of the M keys with the value button, but I could be way off. My memory isn't quite what it used to be....... my age I think.

Check the help file - there's a sort of function summary page in it somewhere. Open the MCU properties and press F1.

FBB gave the answer as to what they do but in Sonar XXXX you need to tell it to use them in the MC surface dialog. They are not on by default.

With question 2 you need to think of the faders themselves as where the gain is for that channel relative to the others. One good reason to have motorized faders. The meters in the MC are for very gross measurement, if that. A control surface is meant to with a glance tell you what is what, at least the MC is.

This is very late. But for those who read this and don't know. fadersensitivity can be ON or OFF. Not everybody likes it when they touch a fader that the channel is selected. So it is usually an option wich can be ON or OFF.

Hi STinGA or anyone,

I just bought a new MCU Pro and downloaded the Quick Start Guide which is useless.
You mentioned opening the control surface options menu, then hitting F1 to get into the help menu.
How do you access the options menu on the Mackie?   I don't see any button for it on the Mackie on the Sonar overlay?
Is this help menu available online somewhere so I can print it out?

The options dialogue is called up by selecting the surface from the Sonar----->Utilities menu.

Many thanks Karl!!!

BTW, are you using X-2 with your MCU?
What problems are you experiencing?
Are you able to control all plugins that came with X-2?

Yes I am and there are a few problems since the X series. The main pain for me is no control over the ProChannel modules except for the first one in the chain.

Anything in the FX bin is okay. There is a list of the main ones HERE #3 has now changed from EQ to first in the chain which for me is actually worse.

Hopefully it'll get sorted at some point but i think the Mackie Control for Sonar was written by a third party so who knows.
