Here is a Forums post about the Motormix and Sonar.   You may want to look for a different controller with Sonar 6 and above, however.

There is a Facebook community out there, your may find assistance there.

Alternatives:

The Mackie Control Universal (MCU or MCU Pro) works well with Sonar.
A much less expensive alternative is the Behringer BCF2000
I would suggest upgrading your version of Sonar at least to Sonar X1 if you can afford to and then getting a newer or used controller to replace the Motor mix.

My local Microcenter in PA, has Sonar X1 Pro on the shelves dirt cheap with a free upgrade to Sonar X2 Pro.  I am sure you can select other Microcenters or order online for delivery.

I hope this helps.

Try "PLAY" and "ESCAPE". The LCD should read "Pro Tools mode- OFF".

Not sure about Sonar 6. But I had a lot of problems with the MotorMix in Sonar 7. Worked in Sonar 4. Still works good in Logic though.

By the way, the MotorMix is a very nice small format control surface. Cake and control surfaces parted ways a while back.

   Thanks for the info everyone,
* Jesse, I do have a Tascam fw 1884, I just got it along with the motormix. I revived my old win XP tower. ganna go old school, hahahaha. I use to use a Tascam US2400 for a controller and a motormix to control my subgroup section of Sonar 3. back some 6 years ago. I'm ganna go back to that setup with the 1884.
* WDI, soon as you posted the "play escape" protocol I remembered, been way too long since I've had my hands on the MM.
* Jesse, I hear what your saying about newer versions of Sonar, I see a bunch of problem here on that subject. For me, newer is not better, Im happy with Sonar 3 or 4. I was thinking of grabbing Sonar 5 just cause its listed as supported by the 1884. I really only use the DAW as a digital tape machine. I have great outboard gear, I need no plugins.

OK Rick,

If I had the outboard gear I wanted, I'd rather use that as well.  Now I see how you are using the older versions of Sonar.

I hope all goes well for you.

Hay Jesse, I have been dealing with a HUGE !!! issue this week, since I have just picked up the 2 controllers, The Tascam FW 1884 has a major issue, hot sure if you have heard of this one, but when I fire up the comp. and turn on the Tascam 1884, the firewire and stop button lights on the Tascam blink, and the sonar or comp. don't see the controller. I have seen this issue all over the web and youtube. general senses is the firewire chip and some resistors are blown, I found a guy on here named Tom from deeringamps, who has a rebuild kit, after trying all drivers from Tascam and testing my Tascam required adaptec 3400 firewire card and cable, she still blinks. Any thoughts before I purchase the rebuild kit?

Tom is a regular poster on here and highly regarded.

I agree with Colin. Tom helped me with my Tascam FW1884, so I can vouch for him. Hi goes by the name DeeringAmps He has some serious skills regarding the FW1884 (amongst other).
All the best.
