  • Why are some "Freeze" buttons in my Synth Rack "grey'd out" but not others? (p.3)

@beeps - had you frozen and unfrozen the tracks that displayed this issue?

Hi, jb.

Nope. I rarely Freeze anything. I was just attempting the synth Freezing because this was/is a particularly huge project so I wanted free up some resources before getting ultra crazy with some heavier duty FX on the final mix phase.

Cheers.

In contrast to your approach, mine is to freeze as many tracks as I can. I have a fast CPU and plenty of memory. I strongly prefer freezing to keep essentially limitless CPU power, and I find it allows for more manipulation. I copy the audio out of frozen tracks to separate audio tracks when I want to put in automation envelopes and other adjustments.

I have seen this on multiple occasions on different projects.  I have been using the mute/unmute work-around.  The last time, the work-around  resulted in Sonar crashing.  Please move.  I suspect using the solo on other tracks my be the cause.

So many of us have run into this issue including myself.  If it's a bug it needs to be sorted.  If it's intended behavior it needs to be re-thought and possibly re-implemented in a more intuitive manner.

Just found this thread while I was searching for something else. I too find this situation often (where the freeze is grayed out) on AD2.

I have never tried the mute/unmute solution. What I've always found is that I can right-click the freeze button and there is a menu item to "freeze Synth" which always seems to work for me. Been doing that for years.
