Another update: I just noticed that they have added some mp3 files at the www.esoundz.com and www.sonicreality.com sites. They give a little more of a picture of some of the possibilities in SS2.

To Blades or Harmony Gardens (or anyone else),

Is Sonik Synth 2 top heavy with "vintage synths"? I am less interested in these type of sounds for the styles of music I like (Jazz, Folk, Bluegrass, Celtic).

BUMP - I hope I didn't offend anyone with the last post, I really do just want your opinion.

ha...no offence.

Best bet would be to take a look through the sounds included on the Soniksynth web site, though I'd bet that it's more heavily weited towards synths than "workstation" instruments, though it has a ton of both.

Can you be more specific in which instruments you'd be looking for? Have you looked at Sampletank2 instead, which is a bit more of an acoustic soundset and less towards the synth side?

What do you use now and what do you like/dislike about it?

I have Sample tank2 xl and I like it, but like everyone else I want more. Some seem to think SS2 sounds better than Sampletank, thats why I'm interested. I think what I like are blends of Acoustic instruments, guitar, piano, harp etc, also blended/layered with more electronic type sounds. For the most part I know what I like when I hear it.

The pad sounds are generally very good, especially after some tweaking.  I'm not huge on the lead sounds, but I have enough of those from SampleMoog.

I think in general terms, there is a lot of hit and miss. With 5000 sounds to chose from, I still think I get a nice palette, even if only 20% are useful to me.
