  • Do you know of any good sales on vocal microphones?

The only LDC I have is a piece of junk, an MXL 2001. It has a harsh high end and makes my voice sound bad. I sound better through an SM-57. I need to stay under $500, preferable $350 or under. I don't want another piece of junk but I don't want to spend any more than I have to. I'll probably buy a Guage if nothing better is on sale cheaper.
Thanks...  (I've been away and missed all the BF sales, death in the family again.) ...but life goes on.

for that price,
i'd suggest a shure SM7

but one of my favorites, that i own and use, is this:

Before you check out Bat's mic suggestion, go listen to his tracks. You'll be very glad you did!
You might need a preamp with extra gain for the Shure SM7b, but lots of people use them for vocals and really like them.

That looks nice, I'll read about it. However, Jon made me a very kind offer indeed! I was thinking about the SM7b.I have a Cloudlifter inline preamp that is touted to make the SM7 really come alive.
Thanks for the advice!

That is the ticket! I have an ISA One which will cover both the gain and impedance corners, but I would add a Cloudlifter Z, if I didn't. I might get one anyway....but I definitely plan to add an SM7b.

I can't say enough fantastic things about this mic:

CAD Equitek E100s

I found it new for $300+ just by searching.  It was easy to find at a large online shopping website.

I'll describe the experience of before and after (and I have a bunch of other mics, some really quite good ones):

The others are in the drawer, and I use this one exclusively.

I am speechless, a kind member sent me two mics he wasn't using, for the price of shipping. I will put them to good use. If either des not fit my voice I will pass watch for the opportunity to pass them on.
If anyone has a use for an MXL-2001, let me know. The high end is too harsh for my voice. Someone was making a tube conversion kit for them but I don't know if they still are.

I also have a J. L. Cooper MIDI Sync unit that I'll never use if anyone has a use for it let me know.
