If you are running the current version of CCC it only checks for updates once every 24 hours. At least it does for me.
The only real issue I have with the CCC is #1 on your list. My internet can be very flaky at times so I no longer use CCC to download the files. I download manually and place them in the CCC download directory, then run CCC for the install so it can check verify the file and activate things.
Wait , wait... are you saying that the CCC runs through all CW packages and programs everyday looking for updates? Mine never runs unless I open it... Is there something I'm missing...
peace!
I think we're talking about different things with the update checks.
I'm actually unfamiliar with the issue you are mentioning.
My issue with and around update checks is this:
1) CCC forces you to do multiple, partial installs manually, rather than being able to select all you want at the start and then just doing it.
So after each little install, it sits there with a line on the bottom of the window saying "click here to continue" or some such wording, leading to further problems:
2) The installer just sits there. Till you see it or get back to the computer, no progress! If you went to sleep, hoping it would finish the installation, you'll find it sitting there at the end of step 1 of 12!
3) when you click it - you get to wait till it checks for updates EVERY TIME.
- this is NOT eliminated by the update check time period setting, as if Cakewalk was pushing out updates every 15 minutes...
4) you have to go through this process 10+ times before everything is finally installed!
- Its a degradation of the user experience compared to the old DVD installer in a number of ways. Admittedly, the DVD couldn't fetch updates, but at least it could finish the job on its own.
5) as a further annoyance, every little progress bar box - and there are dozens of them - steals focus from whatever application you're using. If you're typing in Excel or in the browser, whatever you're typing is lost in the ether and sometimes it activates the wrong button on those dialogs that have buttons, leading to another dialog box asking
"Are you're sure you want to abort installation?"...!
"No, I don't want to abort installation, I was typing a letter and you, my ****ed little software minion, should put up a Windows notification if you need something, instead of stealing focus!"
