  • Will Sonar integrate with Melodyne 4's new tempo detection? (p.7)

Hey Dana, there is a way to remove your first three steps.  That is to add Melodyne to Sonar's 'Utilities' menu.  As long as the 'type' is set to 'WaveEditor', Sonar will send the audio clip to the app.  Once that's done, you just select a clip, go to Utilities and choose your newly added 'Melodyne' entry in Sonar - this opens Melodyne with the clip already loaded.  Just make a new key under HKLM\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\Tools Menu like I have here:

This will shorten the process for you.  And if working on your second iteration of your recipe, you keep your original project open, but open the exported midi clip in a new Sonar project, from where you copy it to your existing project.

If you're not familiar with or comfortable editing the registry, let me know and I can send you a .reg file that will add it automatically.

Bill.

Hi Dana, if you could send the reg file, I would be very grateful. Not a lot of confidence in the registry, but love having tools in the utilities menu. thanks!

So close...

I had my first play with this today

I can replicate the steps to OPEN the exported Tempo Map from Melodyne in a new Sonar Project

This appears to load the Tempo Map and the project follows it perfectly

However, I can't work out how I then load this Tempo Map into my main Sonar Template (with all my busses, routing, templates etc.)

The steps said to "copy" it but there is no data in the new "Tempo Map" project - when I "file --> open" the exported Tempo Map from Melodyne it just has an empty MIDI track - although the tempo changes have clearly imported successfully

I feel like I am really close but have fallen at the last hurdle

Help!

Try drag+selecting along the timeline for the entire stretch of tempo changes.

Omg they didn't do this in the new update?

Oh crap, did Noel leave?
They did an add track.

I can drag and select but there is no "MIDI Clip" or Data to copy

Sonar has opened the exported tempo map and applied the tempo changes to the new file

I just need to find out how to copy/import this tempo map in to another project (ie my template project)

Can anyone that has successfully done the steps mentioned in this thread elaborate on the final 2 steps in post #44

Sussed it

Here is my version of the steps to add what has already been discovered:
  • export the free form piano part or parts as a wav file
  • bring up M4studio or editor's external desktop program
  • load the wav into M4... select all (don't know if this is necessary)
  • Click Edit, go to Temp at bottom, click Detect Tempo of Selection
  • File export, Tempo map... save it
  • Go to Sonar, Go to file open, and select the saved tempo map (the .mid file in "5" above)
  • It will import the tempo map... there will be no MIDI data but the timeline and tempo should change (if you open the Tempo view you can see the changes)
  • Add a MIDI instrument and use Piano Roll (or your preferred method) to add a click track - I used a hi-hat on each beat of the bar, groove clipped it and dragged it for the whole length of the song
  • Select the MIDI track a click on "Copy Special" to ensure that copy tempo and meter changes (and any other options you want) are selected
  • Then go to your original song and use "Paste Special" to carefully paste it in at the beginning... ensuring that you have "tempo changes" and other things you want selected
  • VOILA! - your original project will now have the tempo map applied

Guys i just thought sonar should have a Tempo track instead of or along with the current dedicated tempo view. Wouldnt that make melodyne's tempo matching even more easy. Do have a look here. http://forum.cakewalk.com/m/tm.aspx?m=3377923
