Actually what I said isn't 100% accurate, because I do use SONAR live with Gibson's HD6X digital guitar to host signal processors for hex processing in rock-oriented gigs. The reason I use Live for the DJ-style performances is two-fold...I have live performance projects for it going back to 2001, and I don't want to take the time to convert. Also, I have dedicated hardware controllers that are a great match and simplify performing. I do use SONAR for 95% of what I do, but Live has a nice niche covered.

However...a BIG problem for me is that Live won't record solo button presses in a performance, which is a technique that I use a lot. Ableton says it would be almost impossible to implement this. I started using Live in the first place because it could record my performances easily but this basically makes that aspect fairly useless. At some point I'm going to see if I can do this with the Matrix view; if I can, then I'll be developing my new live projects in SONAR.

However, there are two known people here who have created various alts over the years, and pull them out from time to time when they want to fulminate about how I am an Agent of Satan, and that the community consists solely of intolerant fanbois who conspire with Cakewalk to suppress any negative comments about SONAR. Goes with the territory...the internet is open to the public, and no one is required to actually read forum content before commenting on it

I don't know, I think it's your "Agent of Satan" connection that brings an air of mystique to your wise and helpful advice.  Otherwise it would just be dull and dry.  Oh and btw, I missed the last fanboy meeting with Cakewalk about the latest techniques to suppress any negative comments.  Hopefully someone can catch me up.

And I just posted today, what could be seen as a negative comment about a crashing problem I'm having with Sonar.  But that was just subterfuge to throw them off track.

Sorry folks, but this time my heart has been grievously broken.  Words fail me.  As soon as I hit 'Submit Post' I am going to take an axe to my computer and destroy it, simply because it has SPLAT installed on it.

I may then, depending on how I feel, burn down my house and maybe kill my dog too.  He likes Sonar, but he also pisses on my sofa.  Maybe it is all because of Sonar that my living room smells like dog pee.

Audio-ose.

You didn't miss much, just the posting of the Hounding Users With Legitimate But Long-Ignored Issues schedule. It'll be in your inbox soon.

To be honest I still don't understand the negativity regarding the "new model". I've also been a user since way back and just deal with the subscription like I used to purchase the new version. It means that effectively nothing has changed for me - other than getting regular updates and an extremely stable product.

IMO the OP was just a polite way of letting us know that the poster finds the subscription model very inconvenient.
I saw no typical signs of trolling, and Andertons post #16 made the case.
If I can afford a new rig in this life, which will require an update of the DAW as well, I must say I'm somewhat reluctant/suspicious to the subscription thing as well. Reading the forum it seems every update, in addition to bringing new features, gets something messed up as well. As if SONAR is never in an "OK, now it works" state. :o)
I understand it's just an impression given by the forum discussion, I do realise I can simply buy, install and forget about it. Then again, I'd prefer staying in 8.5, but it may simply not be possible.

Relax. One of the benefits of Microsoft's "subscription model" is that there is now an implicit promise that applications will not suddenly stop working. Supposedly, there will not be a Windows 11, just a continuously-evolving W10. Imagine the uproar if one morning after an automatic update, popular non-Microsoft applications started failing around the world.

I think MS is going out of their way to preserve backward compatibility. For the most part, anything that ran under Windows 7 still runs under Windows 10. That includes SONAR 8.5.

What's with all these "I don't like Cakewalk/Sonar/this forum, so I'm leaving" posts lately? Why do people feel the need to tell anyone else that they are choosing to use another product? Seriously, does anyone care?

Not meaning to sound harsh, but don't these people have better things to do? Like getting on with learning their newly chosen DAW?

Sonar is not perfect, but news flash, .......... NEITHER IS ANY OTHER DAW!! Or ANY software product, for that matter. Go check out other software user forums. Full of threads about how the product doesn't work properly.

Like other users here, I've got many. many years into using Sonar. Unless Cakewalk quits making Sonar, or they totally "F" it up, I don't have the time, nor do I wish to spend the time learning another DAW. Others may have their reasons for using more than one and I have dabbled with others, but I usually find that Sonar does what I need it to do. Plugins, ...... now THAT'S a different story! Or weakness ........

I may not be a serious power user like some, but I've always had success with Sonar. Any problems I can't figure out on my own, I've always been able to get helpful advice and guidance on this forum.

Sorry, getting off the soapbox now. Back to work .......

Actually, I stand corrected. He has logged in again since the one log-in after his initial post. Oh well. Guess he couldn't resist seeing the results of his starting the thread. Nor did he answer my question.

No software ever is, I even have issues with Microsoft Word. But beware the "I just installed Newburyport, and my microwave doesn't work any more" posts. Also quite a few of them are people discovering some issue they hadn't noticed before that has nothing to do with the update.

I feel a lot of people are overthinking this, the solution is very simple:

1. Install the update.
2. If you don't encounter problems, keep using it.
3. If you encounter problems new to that update, roll back to the previous one.

The only time I was tempted to roll back was when upsampling was introduced and there were problems rendering projects with tempo changes if upsampling was enabled. But it was fixed IIRC two weeks later. During those two weeks, I simply didn't render projects with tempo changes if upsampling was enabled.

First off, some of them are from the same troll. Second, here's the Mayo clinic's definition of narcissism:

"Narcissistic personality disorder is a mental disorder in which people have an inflated sense of their own importance, a deep need for admiration and a lack of empathy for others."
