Seriously, does anyone care?

I do.

I'm keeping score.

... I'd prefer staying in 8.5, but it may simply not be possible.

Relax. One of the benefits of Microsoft's "subscription model" is that there is now an implicit promise that applications will not suddenly stop working. Supposedly, there will not be a Windows 11, just a continuously-evolving W10. Imagine the uproar if one morning after an automatic update, popular non-Microsoft applications started failing around the world.

I think MS is going out of their way to preserve backward compatibility. For the most part, anything that ran under Windows 7 still runs under Windows 10. That includes SONAR 8.5.

I actually hope that Microsoft does create a new OS, as I can't see myself ever jumping off the cliff to W10. It's one of the reasons I'm still on 8.5. I have been demoing Sonar Pro, but so far can't see anything that warrants the upgrade, for me. I like my current workflow. But I worry that after W7 is EOL in 2020, I will have to keep using W7 and S8.5. But if that works, so what? I'll keep it offline, as I do now 90% of the time.

BTW, I've been trying for months to figure out what that equation is. I'm pretty sure it's not Relativity. Something to do with Quantum Theory?

Shannon-Nyquist Sampling Theorem.

So what if you're still using Windows 7 beyond 2020 for your DAW? I'd still be happily using XP if not for the need for additional RAM for my larger sample libraries.

BTW, 8.5 works just fine under Windows 10.

First off, some of them are from the same troll. Second, here's the Mayo clinic's definition of narcissism:

"Narcissistic personality disorder is a mental disorder in which people have an inflated sense of their own importance, a deep need for admiration and a lack of empathy for others."

That describes a whole more folks here than just the good bye trolls

Shannon-Nyquist Sampling Theorem! Of course!

I don't think it costs anything to treat the op with respect and courtesy regardless of whatever suspicions or failings he/she may have. Irreverently making wisecracks over what for all we know is a sincere posting demeans us all. As in our real personal and professional lives, there is no justification to gang up and bully someone daring to voice a dissenting opinion.

This seems reasonable enough, but it's a bit optimistic. What if the failings of an OP are in fact a more or less total *lack* of respect and courtesy? What if it's plainly obvious, as it often is, that the OP is *not* sincere? Irreverent wisecracks can be demeaning, for sure, but this place would be dull as dishwater if it were only ever 100% safe and serious. Bullying and ganging up is absolutely not OK, but honestly I see very little of it here. I do see collective frustration with driveby posters and known trolls and alts of known trolls who seem to take pleasure from trashing Sonar and the forums, and sometimes vicious personal attacks. Those things are what seems, to me, to demean the place. I do see people blowing off a bit of steam about it sometimes, but I rarely ever see anything I'd describe as bullying. Maybe I have a thicker skin than others, I don't know.

If the culture were as the protesters say it is, relentlessly browbeating anyone who dares to dissent or say a bad word about Sonar, then I would have been gone a long time ago, as I have little patience for it and much better things to do. But I just don't see it. I do see a series of brand new members or members with no history of contributing, who insist it is the case, over and over, often apparently agreeing with themselves from alt logins, and that starts to get me down after a while. But I don't see the behaviour itself.

This forum's mission statement is clear: Discussion on the use of SONAR. If it's a two-way street, people are treated with respect and courtesy. Simply answering my question about what specifically was problematic about the membership program would have contributed something, as well as shown his sincerity to anyone who doubted whether his post was "real" or not.

Although I agree with giving the benefit of the doubt, people here are rightfully suspicious because of trolls who take advantage of the kindness of the community by manipulating them after getting a discussion started. As I said I don't think it's a troll (although it does seem strange to log in more than once after saying "goodbye"), but it's not surprising that at this point, people are wary of non-contributors to the forum.
