I always took the approach of keeping Sonar as the only application accessing the ASIO drivers of my audio interface at a time - meaning that if I have another audio application running, such as Windows Media Player or YouTube or whatever, those applications all use the HDMI output to an HDTV I use as a monitor, rather than trying to get at the audio interface's ASIO drivers.
I accomplish that by setting the Windows Default Audio Device to the HDMI output to my HDTV monitor. A set of PC speakers would also work, or splitting the speaker output from the computer and routing a left and right from that into 2 channels of my audio interface. Any of these approaches keeps conflict for ASIO drivers from occurring.
Hope that helps,
