  • Option to not preload the next song on an enabled playlist?

I have been a fan of Sonars playlist function for many years.  Over time,  especially of late,  I have noticed increasing issues with the default behaviour of an active playlist whereby it loads the next song on the list as the already loaded song starts to play.  With increasing file size and complexity,  it seems this can cause the currently playing project to glitch,  and also renders remote control of the playlist all but impossible. This function is the same whether wait for keypress is used or not,  even though it seems completely counter intuitive to wait until a song is playing before loading the next song,  rather than whilst the system is idle.

My question for the bakers is how difficult would it be to have an option where the next song on an enabled playlist is not loaded until the current one is finished and closed? This would make the delay between songs slightly longer, (a non issue when using wait for keypress delay)   but the playback stability of the first few bars and several other issues would be greatly improved.

Better still does anyone know of a clever mod that would achieve this?

I agree completely with this tenfoot ,for us who actually use playlist on stage we know how important is what you are saying.
One other option i wish Playlist has is to open projects in read mode only, I do not intend to do changes on stage and if i do it would only be for that gig i dont want to save.
Peace

I now reilized how very few use Playlist, and I dont blame them cause sonar is a studio software, for me I only have been using it for a few months but in my studio i have been using it since 1996 (Pro Audio 9.3).
The reason I decided to use it is to have effects on live instruments,so i dont have to carry a mixer, guitar amps or effect pedals every night.
You know what, it works,I should `ve done this before.
I always keep a simple project with just one stereo mixed track, one live vocal track with one send for reverb, one live guitar track with TH2,one midi track to change TH2 pathces automatically and one midi track for Lyrics.
I am having a much better live mix on stage.
Peace

It really surprises me that more people don't use it MaltaStudio. I was using Cakewalk for dos live well before I started doing all of my editing in their products . It is still the only DAW that has a playlist feature with which you can load and randomly change a set comprised of  projects containing multiple audio and midi tracks. Abelton live comes closest, but much more preparation is required. Cakewalk's (or twelve tones's) very early products were certainly geared towards live performance. I really think it is an undersold feature.

" I really think it is an undersold feature."
Totally agree.
