Hi guys, I've been looking at both the spl crimson and and the audient id22 for a new audio interface. I've been leaning towards the SPL cos it has midi in and out and the audient hasn't. But a lot of people have said the audient is a better audio interface, so I was wondering if I could use my current interface which is a roland quad capture as a midid interface. Basically I would have my midi cables from my keyboard into the quad capture for recording midi and then I would record all audio through the Audient. Does sonar allow me to have an audio input and output from the audient and a midi input which will play through the audio output of the audient from the quad capture.

Hi. I would expect your intuition to be true in this case (no harm intended) I have MIDI connected to my AI, through the MIDI ports. I also have a Tascam FW 1884 connected as a control surface (via FW).
This leads me to believe that you could use an external (besides your AI) MIDI interface besides your AI.
Others may prove me wrong..

I've never been dead sure of this but ASIO has nothing to do with midi conections. So one would beleive that you don't run into the only one ASIO device at a time rule. 
I would think you might have to uninstall the Roland drivers so Sonar is not confused by it. Windows will look after the midi divers and they should show in the midi device list. 

You don't need any trickery or fuss. Just load both drivers and use audio from one and MIDI from the other. Done.
