I'm on SONAR X3.

was using ASIO4All with a crappy soundblaster card.

Got a new card, Aureon 7.1 PCIe and its supposed to have ASIO drivers. The control panel for this card does show ASIO and a testing dialog box.

However, in SONAR preferences, the Aureon card shows up in the driver list... but its greyed out and the ASIO4all is listed... connected to the Aureon.

Is there any way to disable ASIO4All or enable the card drivers themselves? Is there any way to check and make sure the Aureon card does indeed have ASIO drivers installed?

The ASIO specification permits the host to use one I/O driver at a time. To change ASIO drivers, deselect all audio driver input and output settings in SONAR preferences, then make the new driver selection.

thanks

I can do that (deselect all the ASIO4All inputs and outputs) and then select the new drivers...

but then nothing plays.

One thing I've noticed; there are 4 output speakers drivers. On the ASIO4All versions, they're called ASIO4All v2 HD Audio Speaker 1   then the others are identical except named 3, 5 and 7.

The new soundcard drivers are named C-Media High Definition Audio Device Speakers - channel 0... then the other three end in 2, 4, 6

I guess this is normal but none of the C-Media drivers will play anything. No output shows up in the master output channel at all.

Any ideas?

Yup.

Shut down Sonar.

Uninstall ASIO4ALL completely, and just use the ASIO drivers that came with your new card, or download the latest from the manufactuer's site and install them.

Then restart Sonar.

That's the only way to ensure there is no conflict between them.  I had the same problem after installing a demo that installed some generic ASIO drivers in my system, in addition to the real ones I already had.  Sonar was not happy until I got rid of them.

did that

now nothing plays, the ASIO4All drivers are gone, however, the new soundcard drivers are still named 0, 2,4,and 6.

they wont play a thing. Nothing works at all now.

I may have to re-install ASIO4All... at least I got sound.

Before re-installing ASIO4All, reboot. If ASIO mode does not work try WDM mode. ASIO4All is not a driver, it is a wrapper for the WDM drivers.

BTW, if the drivers came on disk, check the manufacturer website for newer drivers. Keep in mind this audio card is not designed for DAW use. A better solution would be an interface designed for DAW use.

That shouldn't be necessary.  ASIO4ALL is not really an ASIO driver.  It's just a wrapper for your Windows sound card drivers.  The new drivers are probably not installed correctly.

You did not mention what version of Windows OS you are running, or if the new drivers are compatible with it.  It's always good to verify the compatibility for the version you are running.

From the Terratec site:
ASIO driver (AudioSysteminputOutput)
For musicans, we provide an ASIO driver for high quality audio data with low latency. Providing this the AUREON 7.1 PCIe can be used in various software sequencers, such as Steinberg´s Cubase.

Yeah, I read http://www.terratec.net/details.php?artnr=12001 before posting. Not the first time a home theater/game card manufacturer has made this claim. I hope this time it proves true and they actually provide a decent driver.

 nothing works.

re-installed from their latest update.

I can select WDM but then it changes the driver to "headphone" and while there is action in the master bus, no sound comes out of the speakers.

I knew this would happen, you cant buy any kind of a soundcard under 500 bucks that has actual ASIO drivers, can you? This was my last shot
