I tried loading Addictive Drums for the first time.   When I did, this message came up.   I understand what it means.  But I don't know what to do to fix it.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Greg

Did you go into the online installer and double-check your path settings?  I'd either move the .dll to where XLN is expecting it (program filesx86\steinberg\vstplugins) or point the XLN installer to program files\cakewalk\vstplugins.

I ran into a similar issue when I couldn't play anything through AD...turns out that although I'd installed the samples on a dedicated drive, I hadn't designated that file path in the online installer. Once I did that everything was gravy.

Well, that's my problem.   Don't exactly know how to move it.

The easiest route would be to open the XLN Audio Online Installer, go to the Advanced tab, then change the plugin path to C:\program files\cakewalk\vstplugins\ since that seems to be where the file actually is right now. Once you apply/save those settings and re-launch AD, everything should come up.

The other route would be to leave the online installer alone and manually move (or copy/paste) the file through Windows Explorer.  Go to C:\program files\cakewalk\vstplugins\ and find the Addictive Drums .dll file. Right-click on it, select "Copy", then navigate to C:\program files (x86)\steinberg\vstplugins and right-click "Paste".  Then you should be good to go.

(The only caveat is that the x86 folder is for 32-bit applications and I'm not sure if that makes a different if you're putting 64-bit plugins in there.  Someone else on here probably knows better than I do with that sort of thing.)

Thanks, streckfus -

I have 64-bit.
It says these are all 32-bit:

Addictive Drums 2
Beatscape
Cakewalk Sound Center
Drop Zone
RXP
rgc Audio Square 1

How do I change them to 64-bit?
Thanks!

Typically if you're installing a 64-bit plugin or synth, it will default an installation path to the appropriate folder (C:Program Files for 64-bit, C:Program Files (x86) for 32-bit). I honestly wouldn't think it would matter where it ultimately gets installed because it's the application itself that determines whether it's 64-bit, not where it lives.

But as far as "changing" goes, you can't really change a 32-bit application into a 64-bit application.  Some plugins/synths offer both versions, so you just select which ones you want when you install them.

You can still run 32-bit plugins/virtual instruments in SONAR, though.

Regarding the specific virtual instruments you've mentioned, I'm not sure if all of them offer both 32-bit and 64-bit versions.  But if they do and you only have 32-bit versions installed, you can always re-run the installer and select the 64-bit version, then pay attention to the drive path of where it's installed and make sure you're looking there when you run a scan.  Do you use Plugin Layouts at all? I find it very handy to set up a custom layout and thereby only select 64-bit versions, VST3 versions, etc.

Whenever I install a plugin, I always download the 64-bit version, if they have it.   So perhaps if the plugins say 32-bit, they must be 32-bit.
But as for Addictive Drums 2, I'm pretty sure that's 64-bit.   I'll try changing the path, as you said.

Thanks for your help!

I'm finally home from work so I can actually look at the XLN Online Installer. :)

When you open the Advanced tab, you've got three options:
- Addictive Drums 2 (the path where the actual samples are stored; mine is on a second drive)
- VST32 (path for me is C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\Vstplugins\)
- VST64 (path for me is C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins\)

Whatever your path reads for the VST64 version, make sure that location is among the folders listed in your SONAR Plugin Manager.  If not, add it, then do a re-scan and it should be available to put in a custom layout if you're using that, otherwise it'll show up in the default layout as well. Then use that version of AD whenever you're inserting the instrument in SONAR and everything should link up.

If you still run into issues or are accidentally using the 32-bit version, it wouldn't hurt to delete the 32-bit version entirely.

If you search Windows Explorer for "Addictive Drums 2.dll" and you get two results, you can delete whichever one isn't in the path specified for the 64-bit version.  Then if you do a re-scan in the Plugin Manager, SONAR will only find one option instead of two, and you'll bet set.

Good Luck!

I'm a little confused.
I went to Preferences and tried to find the path for the 64-bit plugin, under Program Files.
When I added it, the path read, C:\Program Files\XLN Audio Files\Addictive Drums 2\

Not sure what to do....
