Hello
I am a long time user of Cakewalk/Sonar.  I recently purchased a new laptop hoping to use it for recording instead of my pc which is windows XP.  I am finding that windows 10 and older Sonar products may not work together.  Has anyone had experience with trying to use older versions of sonar with windows.
Thanks for any help.

Hey hows it going? I have used Sonar 8 and 8.5 on windows 10. I know relative to yours thats pretty new. I started on 7 and now use platinum. My suggestion to you if your having issues would be to run sonar 5 compatibility mode. You can do this by simply right clicking > properties > compatibility. Then check the box for run in compatibility mode and from the drop down menu select which version of windows to "run it in".
I have 2 Fp10 presonus interfaces which the last driver for them was for windows 7 however they are still working great. I had to actually install the drivers for them in compatibility mode for them to work. If running your Sonar 5 in compat mode doesnt work then perhaps try uninstalling then reinstalling the whole thing in compatibility mode. Hope this helps.

The older programs may work to some extent, however, there will not be fully functionality and be support under Windows 10.

I found my Project 5 v2.5 install DVD and after installing on my laptop to test first, I found it wasn't as robust as it used to be and everything did work as it did under Windows XP.

You're running 5! - And I thought my efforts to support old versions of Sonar with my Control Surface code was both self inflicted wounds and totally in vain even though my neighbor rocks 4 xl, I thought he was that last of em.

I can find out if it runs under 7 for you. If it runs under 7 it will likely run under 10 too.
Win32 is Win32 and until they take that away........

I've successfully installed Sonar 5 on a Windows 10 machine for a friend. Didn't do extensive testing, but everything seemed to work just fine!

Hello
I have Sonar 5 installed but every time I launch it a popup appears that says windows windows is configuring just as it did when I loaded it.  It takes several minutes for it to configure and then it launches.  It seems like windows is still trying to load from the disc even though the disc is out.  I reinstalled it about 4 times.  I can also get it to launch by going through the compatibility test but that also takes time and the latest version of windows listed is Win8.  I might just give up and get the artists edition of sonar, the upgrade might be my cheapest way out.
Thanks

I may be mis-remembering, but wasn't the interface test part of the WDM init routine? IIRC, it stopped being an annoyance when I switched to ASIO. sjhscoach, you might try using the ASIO driver and see if that works better. I should add the caveat that the only time I ever installed SONAR on a laptop (it was SONAR 5), I couldn't get ASIO to work due to the crappy RealTek interface and had to resort to MME. That was circa 2005, though, and may no longer be relevant.

Try right clicking the installer and launch it as administrator. Might work.

When I updated from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, I updated my audio interface driver, but kept SONAR X3. It was awful... The latency was huge. At the time, the best working driver was WDM/KS.

Then I bought SONAR Platinum and now the latency is better than ever, but now the driver I have to use is ASIO.
