Just upgraded from Sonar 8 producer to Sonar Platinum and i'm enjoying what the last 10 years has brought to the DAW world.  One thing that is really standing out to me though is the piano roll.  I like it significantly less than Sonar 8's piano roll in both look and feel.  I am trying to figure out how to make it function more like Sonar 8's did with the Excel-esque grid layout.  Is there anyone that can lend assistance?  Or is this something I need to get used to?

Mostly, I think you'll have to just get used to it. There are some customization options, mostly in regards to what happens when click or double-clicking a clip, but as far as the PRV itself, once you get used to how the smart grid and smart tool works, and remember to set the new note length to "last touched", it really works pretty well. Sometimes the controllers can get a little cluttered, but I've not had any difficulties getting what I want into the track quickly.

I will say that I went from Sonar 5 to X1, then X3e and now Platinum, so I have had a good while to unlearn old muscle memory movements and learn new ones.

Regards,
Dan

ya, I think you will just take some time to get used to it then you will find it is much more fluent than it was in sonar8.
a lot of flow changes have really speeded up the work process.

what exactly are you having trouble with maybe we can help ?

The mouse-click and accelerator key mapping have changed, but the basic "Excel-esque" appearance and workflow of the PRV have not. Is it just the tool mapping that's causing trouble or is there something about the layout that isn't familiar? Possibly you just need to adjust zoom levels...?

There's a lot that the old PRV had; the new one is clearly worse.  Yes, you'll learn, but you'll never stop regretting meaningful scrolling by means of the arrow keys, single click note entry, and controllers that can be drawn without stumbling over grab-the-value idiocies.

After messing around with it on a project I had to get completed I guess it's not as bad as I first thought. Once i figured out the snap by and snap to differences and noticed that vertical grid lines are now a separate toggle, things began to look familiar enough.

I play 90% of my midi through a keyboard but double clicking/click and swiping to enter a single note is a huge pain.  Is there any way to get it back to a single click?

Is there any way to get it back to a single click?

In draw mode, If you hold down "ALT" while placing a note.  Is that what you're after?
