I don't use AD for this reason.

Also, I understand you are stuck with the samples supplied and cannot add your own.
Is this correct?

Anyway, there's so much drum software out there, even free stuff, so it's no loss.

Please do tell about any free drum software that is even in the same ball park as AD2.

Thanks

Yeah, I really like AD2.   It's my default for drums and I haven't done a project without it since, well, getting it.   Oh, and AD2 was one of the main reasons I have the ability to connect to the internet from my DAW.

I cannot register AD so I don't know what ball park it's in. What's it got that's so special?

SessionDrummer is "free" and allows me to build up drum kits from the band's own drums.
I took some time to get into the sfz file format and was amazed at what was possible.

It has got some really good drum samples, a great way of editing/modifying kits and sounds, and (depending on which sets you purchased/selected) lots of live played midi grooves.

A good way of connecting gear to the internet when wireless or Ethernet connections are difficult is the system that utilises the house wiring. I use one to connect our television box.

There are two units that plug into the mains sockets. One connected to the router and one to the remote equipment.

SessionDrummer will accept any samples and also comes with (and can integrate any) midi files. It will play multilayer round robin or randomly selected samples, will play different samples according to any CC (modwheel for example) allowing for example live snare or ride cymbal articulation or sophisticated rises.

It can pitch shift, has amplitude, pitch and filter LFOs, has envelope generators, has a 3-band EQ per instrument and a bunch of esoteric stuff for creative moments. You can even select different samples depending on the NOW tempo! (Why would anyone want to do that? - Dunno. But SD can do it...)

And as for editing, well, SFZ is just a text file. Copy/paste entire blocks of ideas from existing files into yours.

AD clearly is good, from what folks say. But sometimes we forget what we already have.

I wasn't dissing Session Drummer. Just saying AD2 sounds great (WAY better than SD out of the box) and comes with useful and good sounding editing options. I've never seen a snare drum spill or top/bottom balance, or a separately recorded room bus in Session Drummer.
