Unsurprisingly, since these are drivers, there are no .exe files, only .sys & .inf entries. And probably .dlls in the windows system folders. None of these seem to be subject to running in any kind of compatibility mode.
I've had contact with Cakewalk support and been told that it's likely an issue with the drivers, and suggested using a mode other than ASIO. I gave it a shot and there was no improvement.
I'll defer to their expertise and accept that it well could be drivers, but I do have one nagging doubt: Why does X1 work perfectly with the same hardware and drivers that X3 chokes on?
Guess I'm left with the following choices:
1) Stick with the older X1, sacrificing advanced features of X3 that I don't use anyway.
2) Continue to limp along with X3, which seems to work ok once I get the control panel awakened, back up frequently and hope I don't hit the 'Freeze!' button. (If I knew which one it was...)
3) Look for an inexpensive replacement multi-channel interface that will let me record 8 channels simultaneously, as the Delta 1010LT did. Yeah, I know... right after I find the unicorn farm...
Thanks again, Ken. I really appreciate your interest in helping.
Sigh,
Chuck
