Passing on Platinum for now.  So I uninstalled Platinum Demo from my machine and my X3 started crashing when I tried to export audio.  VertTheVert?  X3 is always rock solid for me.  The only fix was to reinstall Splat to see if it fixes the problem.  It did.

So, what is it about the Platinum uninstall that presumably is removing X3 export to audio capability.  I'll like to uninstall Platinum for space, but it appears I'm kind of locked in to keeping it on my machine. :/

Ideas?

Uninstall Platinum then reinstall X3.

Hi guys,

The reason X3 is crashing is because of a bug where it gets confused with blank external encoder entries in the registry. This is not due to any shared components.

You can fix the crash by editing your registry if you feel comfortable doing so:

Open registry editor
Go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CakewalkExtAudioEncoders\{07C30992-FD9A-44A9-8F07-F1AFE58F313A}
If that key has no entries under it you can delete it. Just click on the key and press delete.

That should stop X3 crashing.

Maybe provide step by step instructions for the novice?  Seems to me that is a pretty significant bug for anyone that doesn't continue with the upgrade.

I was having trouble with Crashing at the point of opening the export audio window.

There have been several changes on my system recently most importantly a rather rocky windows 10 upgrade. I removed X3, X2 and 8.5 from my system and had not exported audio since.

I un-installed SPlat and removed all the cake reg keys. Then rebooted and reinstalled and the crash when away.

This was just 2 days ago. I wish I could have seen this thread earlier.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the report. We have a fix in place, and will be cleaning this up properly in the upcoming release/demo update. So the suggestion from Noel and Seth won't be required soon.
