Today no it sends the entire wave file. I was thinking about this same thing recently and I agree it would be much nicer if it bounced the selected region down automatically. Maybe I'll try and hook it up in my "free time" :) This is quite different from Melodyne ARA editor integration which is much more sophisticated and requires the editor to be able to stream the audio on its own via VST3.

If you do this, I will build a golden statue of you in the town square and make the peasants bow down and worship it.

There is a sort of workaround, which is to split out the part you want, right click it, and select "apply trimming". Which is a LOT of clicks.

Just a word of caution (not tried the above)... the point of a clip being a "window" into the underlying wav file and other clips being dependent on that wav is important to bear in mind. The "default" passing of a wav to a wav editor (and not doing a "save as") actually replaces the original wav file (i.e. it is GONE). This is very important to realize, since other clips may be dependent on the original file. The "GONE" is no joke... it has been overwritten by the external wav editor.

That's incorrect. Sonar always generates a copy (with the filename "Tool_copy*****") to send to the editor. On coming back in, it gets replaced in the project, but the original file will still be in the project's audio folder.

You can also just select the region and bounce to clip. I have it bound to CTRL+B but I forgot if this is default or my preference.

Any idea why launching Soundforge Pro 11 from Splat x64 would give me a "Cannot create process" error?

This is usually a permissions problem. It may be necessary to run SONAR as administrator.

Thanks Scook - that solved it.

I've been lobbying a long time for Cakewalk to add a wav editor (as part of a mastering suite) to Sonar. Now with ARA it seems like a no brainer...
I would love to never have to use Adobe or Sound Forge again.

This is how it works for me with Wavelab. It opens only the region I select. When I am done, I save, Close WL. SONAR tells then me that a file has been altered, and if I want to update / replace the file. Click yes, and all is well. I must admit that I have not checked if the original stays in the Project Audio folder.
All the best.

That would be absolutely awesome!

I have been monitoring this thread and I have come to a conclusion. I am overwhelmed by the quality of the posters just adding their wisdom in order to be of use to another.  The depth of knowledge and thought that is evidenced in this thread is what makes this forum so darn good.

The fact that so many of you answer a call to help is inspirational and we have only the members here to thank for all that they do on a daily basis. Yes we have from time to time an interloper bent on causing conflict but that is something that is a rarity. What we do have are a huge group of caring and thoughtful people keeping this forum at the very top drawer quality.

HI:)

At the moment I have GoldWave as Editor, but if I cut a Wavefile and select the cutted piece, only that piece is going to GoldWave, note the whole clip!
Perhaps the problem is with Audition?

Bassman.
