I'm just a noob in audio edition. I've started learning to use Sonar X3 since two months ago and I've found that's a really friendly software but now I'm fighting with some issues that I can solve by myself.
 
I'm working with Kontakt 5 and Symphobia 2 libraries and I'm going crazy because I can't find how to make an automation lane with the modulation of the instruments during playback of MIDI tracks (I'm composing and editing with the step secuencer). I know that I can draw the modulation in the piano roll but I can't do the same using the wheel of my MIDI masterkeyboard (actually an Novation Impulse 61), somebody knows how can I achieve that???
 
Drawing the modulation in piano roll is really annoying and I think that the resolution points from hand drawing hasn't the complexity of the wheel direct play but most important is the result of it in the track:

As you can see the hand drawing modulation it's a lot simpler than the direct feed one and it cut the track in small pieces... but I don't know why or how to do it as the image in the top. I've been searching for the answer but I only found solutions and tutorials for FL Studio, Live and Cubase (and I don't like those DAWs) :'(
 
I tried it in thousand ways without any results and the point is that if I move the mod_wheel during playback it afects to the track but there is no way to record it and put it into an automation lane!
 
If someone can help me it would be awesome cause I've been looking for the solution from a week without any improvement :'(

Piano Roll view has independent Snap to Grid resolution (right upper corner of the PRV). In your case the resolution in PRV is set to 1 quarter. You can either set it to some small duration like 32nd or even 64th, or turn it off completely.

Do you know why the tracks appears splitted in clusters? I though that the modulation must go to an automation lane but it's only in the PRV... I'm confused.

This is also one of the things that confuses me a bit about Sonar.  You can put modulation in an automation lane (select 'Automation' rather than 'Clip' in the track), and I use that method as a preference because it easily allows me to manually insert nodes and create curves as you would for volume or any other automated function.  This technically gives you access to any control that can be modulated (such as filter. ADSM. resonance etc on soft syhtns, as well as FX).  However, understanding which element is being controlled by the CC data channel is a bit of a guessing game.  I spent about 30 minutes last night trying to find the decay time for the AUX1 reverb send in Spark - the nomenclature used is extremely opaque.

Well, that's the theory but in fact I can't assign the modulation wheel to an automation lane, probably that's a Kontakt config problem:
 
I think that mod_wheel is CC 01? Well, I select this parameter and I activate the write option on the track as I do to volume automation, for example:

As you can see the red icon in CC 1 flashes as I move the wheel, OK, but if I assign the MIDI CC 01 to the automation lane nothing happens in the lane when I use the wheel while the track is playing (although it affects the sound), there isn't input information in the lane... but I don't know why the hell. Theorycally it must works but... not for me :(
 
I tried to assign the CC 1 to the mod wheel inside the Kontakt Keyboard but it doesn't have that option, I assume that's cause the mod wheel is assigned to the CC 1 by default. I'm really confused :$
 
I read somewhere that you need a MIDI track to control those MIDI parameters but I don't understand it well. I'll try to explain it better. If I create a MIDI track and I add a synth after creating that track (as Kontakt or DimensionPro) there isn't output signal in both track or master. I use to move the synth from the explorer window to the center of Sonar and it creates a track by itself. In that case I can hear the output signal from the track. Well, what I found is that somebody said that you need the other system, a full MIDI track (with the MIDI icon, not the keyboard) to make that kind of automation lanes. Obviously I don't know if that's true and the correct way to achieve direct feed from mod wheel.

To access MIDI automation requires a MIDI track. Do not create a track just for automation though. From the first image, it appears synths are using instrument tracks. Split the track by right-clicking in the track header and select the option from the context menu.

Then use the MIDI track created CC automation.

If I'm understanding correctly, the OP doesn't want to use an automation envelope, he wants to record Continuous Controller events in real time from his keyboard. This should simply be a matter of moving the mod wheel while recording an armed MIDI or Instrument track (with record mode set to Sound on Sound if there's already existing MIDI in the track).
 
If that doesn't record the controllers as expected, then my first guess would be that either the keyboard is not sending the events on the expected channel, or SONAR is not recording them them because the option to record Controllers is not checked in MIDI recording preferences (it should be checked by default).
 
As for not being able to draw controllers as a finer resolution, it was mentioned that this is determined by PRV snap resolution if it's enabled. It looks to me like that resolution is "-1 ticks"; I'm not even sure how you would get SONAR display "-1", but I would suggest trying something more reasonable like a 32nd or 64th. Or just disable snap, and SONAR will adjust the draw-density automatically depending on how fast the value is changing (IIRC).
 
EDIT: I did a quick check, and it is possible to enter a resolution of "-1", and it even works, but you have to have the resolution button enabled, and I can see from the screenshot that the PRV snap is enabled, but the resolution is not enabled/highlighted. I reported some time ago that the PRV snap controls should automatically disabled and minimize after a few seconds when no mode options are enabled - as it used to in X1.

I was playing with the track split as Scook mentioned and I found that I can draw but no to do it in real time with the wheel, then I remembered this option and used it in the value box of the MIDI track:
 

 
Inside the Remote Control menu I selected CC 1 and voilà!!! DONE!
 
Now I can do the automation lane with the keyboard wheel during playback as I can do with volume and keyboard faders!
 
And Brundlefly, I don't know why but that value, -1 ticks resolution, was the default in the PRV. In fact I've never used the PRV since I needed to do the mod automation lane and it was in that value from the beginning. Could it be a bug??? I don't know...

BTW, how did you manage to draw almost ideal sine-shaped line on the 2nd screenshot in your first post?

It's handmade Dilletant. I've a good laser mouse and a stable pulse, that's all. I did it in one draw and then I modified the few points that where out of the wave form, nothing else :)
