ok, though "hacked" is a bit alarmist, and inaccurate... from that thread it looks like it was a mix of x3 compatibility issues combined with lack of upload controls/checks... but hey! at least we can still get those downloads via archive.org, but it would be great if it were brought back to life, so to speak :-)

after some more thought, it would be much easier to control access now, as it's all single sign on, could be a quick win for cake

It was meant to be an alarm. I would avoid using any of those presets until CW says its OK to use them.

Nor do they check why it was closed down. Everything on the net is archived somewhere.
