  • Is snap-to fixed yet in X2 Staff View?

Hey all, know if snap-to settings actually work when inputting notes by mouse in X2 Staff View? (Try setting snap to 1/4 notes and inputting a measure of 4 quarter notes).

My copy of X1 sits idle and I use SONAR 8 instead entirely because of this regression bug, so I'd really like to know if it has been fixed in X2. I reported CWBRN-3998 about this problem in X1, which was "archived", so there may be no intention of fixing this.

Seems to work okay here, but maybe I'm not doing what you're asking. What happens when you input a measure of quarter notes?

Thanks for trying it out!

What happens in X1 is that notes on the second, third, and fourth beat don't snap to 1/4 note resolution; they always snap by something much smaller, so it's difficult to get them lined up correctly. X1 requires dragging left and right at way too small a resolution until I hit exactly 1:02:000, 1:03:000, and 1:04:000 (it always snaps to something tiny like 48 ticks, regardless of snap settings, so it's really easy to insert the second note at 1:02:048 or 1:01:912 instead of exactly on beat 2).

Okay, yeah nothing like that here, but maybe you should download the X2 trial and make sure it works okay for you too. You never know.

Woohoo, confirmed it's finally fixed! Great idea on downloading the trial--appreciate it!

Except that it's apparently NOT fixed in the full version!?!?!?

@StepD: Did you try this out in the full version of SONAR X2 Producer?

This worked perfectly for me in the X2 trial version but now that I bought, downloaded, and installed the full thing, this is broken again! I'm confused as to why the behavior between the trial and full versions would be different here, but I guess that means the builds differ in more than just content.

I feel like I just wasted another upgrade purchase and will be forced to revert to version 8 again. This bug literally makes X2 useless for me :(

It's a bit of a stretch, but, did you download the .308 quickfix?   I think that's the same as the demo version.

Yep, I did try the 308 quickfix, thanks--but no luck. (The first build I downloaded was build 306, and it didn't work on that either).

I'm willing to venture to guess that when you installed X2 you imported your preferences from your prior Cakewalk installation, and something about those settings is causing this to either break entirely, or do something other than what you're expecting, or it could even just be user error (which we all do - it's not meant as an insult). That would explain why it worked with the demo, doesn't work in X1, works in 8.5, and doesn't work again in X2 (because you may have changed something in X1, then Sonar imported your X1 preferences when you first ran x2).

So let's try ruling some things out. Here's what I recommend:

1. Reset your Sonar settings back to default (I think you can hold Ctrl down when opening for this - can someone confirm?)
2. Try again, does it work now?

If yes, it's likely some setting somewhere. If no, and it's still broken, then come back to this thread and post very detailed instructions outlining what exactly you're doing. Make it so simple that someone who never opened Sonar could reproduce the problem. Example:

1. Open Sonar
2. In a new project right click in the Track View
3. Select Insert MIDI Track
4. Click Alt+6 to open the Staff View
5. Confirm that your Snap setting is set to Quarter Notes
6. Enter a series of quarter notes
7. Select the quarter notes on beat 2 and open the note properties

Expected Results: the quarter notes should all snap to grid as such: Measure 1 Beat 1, Measure 1 Beat 2, Measure 1 Beat 3, etc.

Actual Results: quarter notes are not lined up [BTW I just followed those same steps and it works entirely as expected here, do you get the same results?]
