  • Is snap-to fixed yet in X2 Staff View? (p.4)

I updated the link because the embedded space in it was making it impossible to resolve.

I hope some of you with X2 will take the time to try to enter 4 quarter notes into Staff View by following the instructions in the link, so we can verify that the resulting notes line up right where they should in X2.

Thanks.

I just watched the video and you're definitely not doing anything wrong. When I try and reproduce those exact steps, it works for me. This is probably the kind of thing that might be specific to your installation, or your machine.

I'd now suggest reporting this directly to Cakewalk and pointing them to the video.

Has the source of this issue been determined?  Has it been resolved in X2a?

Based on what the OP last stated from his conversation with CW support, I wonder if the Smart Grid feature is coming into play, and somehow changing the snap value without changing the display in the tool itself?

I've had the same problem with with note values of any kind using X1 Essentials and Producer Expanded through the Staff View and Piano Roll views, too. The cursor would work as expected, then it would snap to some other value (.014, .028) when program is opened. While this issue has been reported and acknowledged over a year ago, this issue does not appear in the Knowledge Base.

I had this very same problem.

I uninstalled Sonar. I deleted some reg entries and other files around the hard drive. (there are instructions here on the forum somewhere on how to completely uninstall Sonar)

I re-installed Sonar (X1 BTW) using the method from that same thread about un-installing. It leaves out a quick fix or something. I never had the problem since.

Ok, I'll add my two cents worth, even though this thread has been silent for quite a while:

I'm using Sonar X2 Studio (X2a build 351). The staff view snap had been working just fine with old and new projects until one day it was just gone in a project while editing midi notes. With other projects it was still working, but not with this one. No snap whatsoever and it was very hard to position midi notes after that. And I "hadn't touched anything".

After a while I almost gave it up, but then stumbled onto an old Sonar 8.5 release note (found with Google) which had a section named "3.3. Toggling Snap To Grid With the Letter N". Okay, on to Sonar staff view and press "N". Snap to grid was back! Press "N" again - snap to grid gone... Press "N" - snap is back! This was starting to look quite good.

I then went to see what function is bound to the "N" key in the staff view and found it to be "Snap Toggle Extend". The case was now solved and I haven't had to suffer since. I must have pressed "N" by accident at some point and snap to grid was gone.

So, no INI file surgery or uninstallation/reinstallation misery was required in my case, I just pressed "N".

I hope others suffering from snap-to-grid-less staff view will find this post helpful!

Oh wow! I have had this problem continually since X1 (maybe earlier). Snap to in staff view would work for a while then, out of nowhere, magically turn off with seemingly no fix. I'm sure I've posted here about it before. I ended up having to completely remove Sonar and reinstall (which worked) but since it happened recently in X2 I've just been aiming and then either right-clicking to adjust the note to its correct value (.240 .480 .720) etc. or just selecting a bunch of notes and hitting quantize. Which is long!

...AND NOW I FIND OUT, AFTER 3 YEARS, YOU CAN JUST PRESS 'N' TO FIX IT!!
great!

petemus you are a hero! thank you

I still run into this problem all to often in X2.
Thanks to petemus for the solution which seems to work.  But, can somebody tell me what is "Snap Toggle Extend" that gets toggled by pressing "n" in the staff view?  How can I tell if it is toggled on or off?

My settings for snap seem to be okay as shown in the first two images below.  But, I still get random values for notes entered on the staff as shown in the last image below.
