I haven't posted or visited here for quite awhile. I had given up using my studio for the last 4-5 years. Many of the reasons were due to X1 Producer. We did not get along very well. I've used analog tape, digital tape and then every version of Cakewalk from Pro-Audio 8 to Sonar 8.5. Even upgrading to X1 Expanded was a disappointment. I did not really experience many crashes, it was just difficult to find what I was looking for quickly. I never liked the sound of it either. It didn't seem to have a lot of clarity so I didn't bother with X2 or X3. I even considered switching to a different brand of DAW.
A month ago, I decided to upgrade to a new computer, Windows 10, 6th gen i7, 16 gig ram, 2 1TB HD's, updated audio interface card and Platinum. As much difficulty as I had with X1, Platinum is just a breeze to use. I know it's layout is similar, but everything is so intuitive with Platinum. My outboard gear isn't anything from this century and I suspected a lot of the sound quality issues may be due to that. I'm using a MOTU 2408MkII connected via TDIF to 2 Tascam TM-D4000 mixers. Monitors are Yamaha MPS-6 with a sub. But with Platinum the difference in sound quality is amazing. The best way to explain is that X1 sound seemed muddy and Platinum is crisp and clear. I've had a couple of odd lockups, one where I had to restart Platinum and one that I had to re-boot the computer. Overall, very happy I upgraded. I too, would recommend using the trial version to see what you think. I couldn't because of the old XP computer. Since I had to buy a new computer, what was another $200 for the upgrade at that point?
