  • Why can't we copy & paste from one MIDI track to another in PRV? (p.4)

I just selected audio on track 3, why didn't it paste on track 3??

Selecting a clip does not change focus to that track if the focus is elsewhere. And the starting track for a paste operation is always the focused track. So if the last track you had focused (i.e. track name is highlighted) was 18, and you select and copy a clip from another track without deliberately moving the focus to that track by clicking its header, the paste will go to track 18.

This independence of track focus and clip selection is very useful, but it seems to throw a lot of users for a loop. I suppose this is because it's not really clearly documented in the Ref. Guide.

I've never gotten more than one paste.  I have to go back and reCopy, then paste again.  Typically, if something is copied to the clipboard, you can keep pasting.  Not so in Sonar, (unless I'm doing something wrong, which might well be true).

I'm not sure what you could be doing wrong, but it does and always has worked that way for me in SONAR.

There's a Reference Guide?

Well, that might explain it.

Thanks.  If it works for you then I am definitely doing something wrong.

If it helps any, it's consistent for me as well.  But you do have to be aware of selection vs. focus and how each is treated (and displays) within SONAR.    If you do and "follow the rules", the results should be consistent.   Barring any actual bugs, of course.
