  • Project Saves After Every Edit

Has anyone else seen this?

When I've been doing heavy editing on a project (e.g. slip editing, trimming, or nudging lots of little vocal clips), SONAR works normally for a while, but eventually starts saving the project after every edit. Plus, the saves seem to take longer and longer.

OK, a save only takes a second or two, but in a long editing session it adds up to a lot of waiting time.

Any thoughts?

How are your autosave settings?

...but then make sure you manually save often. I have auto-save turned off, but my left-hand pinkie/index fingers are trained to automatically hit "ctrl-s"  a couple time a minute or more. I find it a pain to lose edits because my mind has registered those changes as being done, and out of the "to do" list - and then they become forgotten. Sonar freezes on me pretty often, so this happens to me on a regular basis.

I have some pretty big projects, and I don't think they ever take more than about 10 seconds to save. How long are you seeing for a save?

Thanks all for your replies. Since they overlap a bit I'll respond to your suggestions collectively.

My Autosave is set to 5 minutes or 20 changes, 128 Undo levels. I believe that's the default.

Saves are only taking two or three seconds, but the dead time adds up. If it only happened every five minutes or so, I wouldn't care, but I'm having to wait after every split or trim.

I realize that this shouldn't happen if Autosave is turned off. But I don't particularly want to turn Autosave off. I am a non-recovering Ctrl-S addict, believe me, but it's nice to have Autosave as a backup; it's saved me more than once.

Why should my project be AutoSaving after every change when it's set to 5 minutes or 20 changes?

I've had this problem off and on for quite some time.  I've raised my 'Autosave' to 50 and it still would save after a few edits so I do feel your pain.  Interestingly enough, it no longer seems to be exhibiting this behavior, (Newburyport).  Go figure....

Thanks Paul G. I'm on Newburyport, too.

This has cropped up from time to time and the answer is it depends on what sonar thinks is an "edit"

You might make an adjustment somewhere in your project which can and does trigger many tens, if not hundreds of events, each of which Sonar will interpret as an edit and thus will trigger Autosave.

Things like Controller data, Transient markers etc will produce this behaviour.

Bristol_Jonesy,

That makes sense. In the most recent instance, I was doing Melodyne tweaks to a lot of short clips. Presumably, every change in pitch and timing was considered a change. Not unreasonable.

I'll try setting up Autosave based on time only, e.g. every three minutes.
