Evidently not basic enough for me. I use EZD2 and EZKeys and they handle all the midi(loops) I  need.

I agree. Bugfixes and usability fixes.

Charlyg, You obviously don't do a lot of MIDI editing. Some of us do. Why chime in and post that you don't need or want that fix? A bit narcissistic, no?
Fixes help everyone, including Cakewalk. The more stable Sonar gets, EVERYONE wins.

I vote for at least a few months of just fixes and stability issues. NO new features.

I'm pretty sure (as charly said) there are different people working on different projects. I doubt think the people working on Rapture Session are also working on bug fixes. It would seem to me that there have been more fixes over the past year than ever before.

I like both. For the most part I am not all that turned on by bug fixes even when its a bug that bothers me. I am turned on by new features. I know bug fixes are very important. That doesn't mean the boy in me is satisfied by them. Besides some features that we got in 2015 were fantastic.  Also as a marketing strategy I can't see how that would play well. A list of bug fixes and nothing else. Maybe only a true nerd could get excited by that. I don't see myself being wowed by that.

The above is how I think about this.  This is how I act. I look at the list of bug fixes for each update carefully. I also look at new features with far more interest.

You guys are leaving out a third category, which is "Improvements to existing tools".  Examples would be improvements to:
- Step sequencer
- ACT
- Drum Maps
- PRV
- Take System
- Inspector
- MIDI Arpeggiator
- Browser
- Mixer (why only two views, narrow and wide?  Should be more options so I can see all info on only half of the vertical screen)

There's a ton of tools which would benefit from better functionality or a facelift.

And don't forget the Matrix; also an existing tool needing love.

I don't really see how a "bug fixes only" approach would work for Cakewalk in marketing to new customers--  "The software is so broken that all we are doing is fixing it. Subscribe and see!"

From the marketing point of view, user interface improvements were highly touted for the early X series (wrongly, since it took several years and they still aren't universally loved or always beautiful.   So fixing bugs enables claims of "newly efficient user interface" and "more beautiful and configurable screen real estate" and "blazing new speed".

Over the last year, I've made heavy use of Drum Replacer, Vocal Alignment, and I've used the new Aux track functionality on every mix since it's been available. I'm also glad of bug fixes and refinement, but in terms of actually getting my job done, those three things, and a handful of others have been definitely more valuable than any bug fix I can recall in the same period.

I think if Sonar went for a feature freeze, that would give some other DAW the opportunity to significantly pull ahead. And while I'm fond of the company and all, I'd switch if something else had a stronger feature set. I'd also switch if bugs were so egregious they got in the way. I think they've got the balance more or less right.

Can someone explain to me what the reproducible bugs are supposed to be for matrix view? Or is it more about additional functionality?
