  • Question to Bandlab: Finally there will be an update overhaul?

Hey folks!
I was wondering if Bandlab  wants to continue with small "monthly" updates endlessly of if they planning to do a big release at some point in order to make a real upgrade from the Gibson version of the program. Do not get me wrong I really like Cakewalk and the vision of Bandlab as a company but I think that the recent updates are focusing on cosmetic changes instead of modernizing the product to justify the upgrade from the latest Sonar Platinum or to make a crossgrade from something like REAPER or Studio ONE.
I really appreciate your job, best regards and sorry for my english .

Based on comments from Meng & Noel and others from Bandlab/Cakewalk,
I would wait and watch what happens with Cakewalk in the next two to three months.

Then you can ask your question again.

You do realise that CbB is at this point free and is S-Plat with a new name?

Yes I know it but I expected major changes to the program itself and not only in the business model side.

How major do you expect the changes to be for free software?  Meng et al have stated they want progress, but what we've seen the last few months while they figure out what exactly they got when they bought Cake is small improvements and bug fixes.  And they haven't announced any big changes to come.  As much as BandLab wants to develop CbB they still have to run cost/benefits analysis and as stated elsewhere in this forum, the quickest method to raise money is to release the high-quality effects/synths (which some here have already been asking to buy) from Cakewalk while they tinker under the hood of SONAR.  Maybe when they pay down some of the debt they incurred they can think big, and be able to hire more bakers.

Another note is that that PR and some other staff positions have been taken over by BandLab, which should make CbB bottom line better by spreading those fixed costs among other assets.

Major changes? All DAWS are pretty-much equal- give or take a little bit here and there. Every DAW needs the same stuff: Record, Mix, Edit, Loop, Instruments. CbB Has that in spades. You can change the look n feel and get rid of some bugs, but what else is needed? Honestly wondering out loud.

Even if major changes happen, would you really expect a major change so soon?  How often do truly major changes occur in any DAW? I would assume most of the work so far has been of transitional nature and the updates so far have been extensions of updates that were already in development when Cakewalk folded.. I understand your eagerness, but give them some time :)

+1 to "major changes" combined with "free" being a bit high of an expectation.

For me, I always hope to get a cool car for free, then have the manufacturer do all the maintenance, repairs, inspections, etc. (I *might* pay for half the gas, but ONLY if they cover licensing and insurance)...

[I am still hoping... ]
