AFAIK Noel has been involved with Cakewalk for almost two decades then... How Cakewalk is going to change now?

The development and release cycle of CbB mirrors SONAR Platinum. Don't expect that to change any time soon. Do expect a new forum, ports of Cakewalk plug-ins, customer accounts. But all of this takes time.

Noel being involved means someone with a deep understanding of the core product is available. No matter what direction they take, it would be even slower without an expert on the product and code like Noel on hand.

And please only one Facebook profile. At present there's two - leading to confusion.

I would love a new agreement with Roland for providing fully compatible hardware again since I heard that Meng is trying to bring back VS700 support. However, this sounds utopian and I will be content if the product becomes popular enough to third parties.

Seamless integration with new mainstream hardware controllers like icon, xtouch, avid, nectar etc should be priority, they are smaller, cheaper, better now. And of course the compatibility with widest selection of audio interfaces. That should give good foundation for a solid studio.

So how much would you be willing to pay BandLab for that?  Last time I checked, developers don't work for free.

Are we talking about Cakewalk's developement roadmad here or something else? I just pointed some shortcomings, some directions to progress, what's wrong for Cakewalk to grow there? And Cakewalk's success is my success. Not getting your point for me personally to pay extra for hardware compatibility.

Aren't those controllers pretty seamless anyhow? Anything I've used that uses the Mackie protocol worked pretty much out of the box.

For anything else you can either use ACT, or Alexi's AZ Controller which will work with anything.

I'm using the Mackie MCU/XT/C4, Korg Nano Kontrol (both studio and mini versions), BCF2000 and all of them work fine. In the past I used the Philip Rees C16 and the JLCooper CS32 - I've not checked the latter two with CbB yet, but they worked fine with Sonar so I doubt anything has changed.

And as far as audio interfaces go, if it has drivers for Windows it'll work. CbB supports ASIO, WASAPI, WDM and MME which basically covers all bases.

Is there anything in particular that doesn't work for you?

My point is that any additional feature development would need to be funded by paying customers.  The current business model of releasing a previously premium, paid for only DAW for free, does not seem to allow for anything beyond some basic tweaks.

Hopefully once an increased market share appears, they will be able to monetize the intellectual capital that was acquired from the former Cakewalk company, and good things may happen.  But it is premature to expect major development at this time.

I didn't intend to get into particular issues, the need to use additional software like the excellent AZ Controller to unlock ProChannel features in hardware controller is just an overall example what I mean. Not very intuitive for newbies and newcomers.

It was only less than 7 months ago right around Thanksgiving time when we all had the floor dropped out from under us . We were all left here on this forum dangling in mid air with out a parachute or safety net concerning SONAR ..
Those of you who still remember ....What say Ye . Yes or No ?

Cakewalks  Premium DAW has been brought back from the dead and given a new lease on life .
I'm pretty happy w Cakewalk by Bandlab and the way things are so far .
I hope the best is yet to come
