I don't know if it's just me, but Mix Recall doesn't seem to work properly with 3rd-party plugins, at least with Guitar Rig and Valhalla Room, which I used in a recent project. The issue, IIRC, is that if you reload the current scene (or switch to another scene and switch back), all the settings in the plugin get initialized. This didn't happen with plugins that come with SONAR, including TH2. Do you use any 3rd-party plugins? Do the settings in them remain after switching scenes?

I've just run into this problem.  I'm playing with stereo position and width and set up two scenes, one using Channel Tools and the other using the NI Replika delay.  Replika does not remember its settings after a switch.  Channel Tools appears to do so, as does R-MIX.  I tried creating a preset for Replika (a "vst2" preset since I haven't figured out how to create a new preset in Replika) but that didn't work either, so it doesn't remember a preset either.

Thanks for posting this, Paul. I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one encountering the issue. I thought Mix Recall would be a great addition when it was announced, but sadly it doesn't work with some (not all) of 3rd-party plugins I have. Since the issue seems developer/product-dependent, I guess it's very hard to fix.

Btw, Replika has a drop-down in the upper left corner of its GUI that has "Save As" (IIRC) for saving the current settings as a preset. But the next time you open the project, the preset name in the GUI adds an asterisk even though you didn't tweak any knobs on the GUI after you saved the preset. I reported this to NI and they said they would fix it.

Wow, thanks for this and more.  I never noticed that little arrow in the top left.  So I saved my settings in a preset and these were remembered after a scene switch !  It would still be better to save the current state of the plugin to not have to save the preset before starting to switch scenes, but this is better than nothing.

Now if only the plugin window reopened I'd be content.

Glad I could help. On the other hand, settings in Valhalla Room get initialized after switching scenes even if I save them as a user preset. I guess it's better to only use plugins supplied with SONAR if I want to use Mix Recall.

I think its probably the single most powerful feature available in Sonar that I haven't found in another DAW.

Dan Gonzalez wrote a really interesting blog post about using Mix Recall to try out different kits in AD2.

If ValhallaRoom and Replika don't work with Mix Recall then the feature is essentially dead to me. Shame, as that's one of the few things introduced to Sonar in the last year I'd intended using.

Hmmm...   Can anyone else confirm that if you have more than just one change in either Replika or Valhalla Plate (I don't have Room) that the mix scene changes do stick?    I swear when I made a single change in Valhalla Plate as the only change before saving a new mix scene that change was lost, but as soon as I started making additional changes (those two plugins or otherwise) and re-saved the existing mix scenes the changes were retained.     I think.

I shouldn't be plugin specific - mix recall is like a giant macro on top of a ton of normal SONAR operations and some internal stuff. Its most likely that mix recall is exposing some order of operation bugs in the plugins themselves. I'm pretty sure that the issue isn't with Mix recall itself.

If someone can build a really simple project with some mix scenes that demonstrate the issue I can try and look into it or work around it.

If someone can build a really simple project with some mix scenes that demonstrate the issue I can try and look into it or work around it.

Please download this very simple project from the following page (click the down arrow button to start download):
https://box.raksul.com/dl/82e58623d27cd4128dcae04ee185632c

And follow these steps to confirm the issue:

1. Open the project you've just downloaded, with the "Store Project Audio on its own Folder" option de-selected.
2. Play the track and you'll hear a guitar riff with a slight amount of Valhalla Room's reverb.
3. Save a new scene.
4. Reload the scene you've just saved, by clicking it in the drop-down on the Mix Recall module.
5. Reopen the Valhalla Room's property page. At this point, the sliders and knobs on the GUI are the same as before, as expected.
6. Now, play the track. you'll hear the guitar riff with an excessive amount of reverb, and notice that it's because the settings of the sliders and knobs on the GUI have been changed (they are the default settings which you can see by inserting another instance of the plugin).

I have another project in which Guitar Rig 5 shows the same issue but TH2 doesn't. But please first check the above project and identify the cause of the problem, which may solve the issue with GR5, too.
