I love Dan's contributions. not only his templates but his videos are also A+ on the informative side of things.
always good idea's from Mr G.
as for the mastering templates, Ive only tried them a handful of times.
believe it or not some of the older sonar plug ins are some of my favorites till this day.
and the Sonitus suite ? the Delay has that old school feel to it, very simple.

Yes, Mr Gonzales seems to have more than filled the educational vacuum left by the loss of Seth and Ryan.

Also gotta give some props to Bill Jackson too who is always informative and down to earth.

More of these doods please.

Seth is really active in the Steam forums of SONAR, kind guy and really knows how to solve problems.

Cheers :)

Thanks for the info. Glad he found a home for his resourcefulness. I'll have to go see what he's up to over there.

Last I heard he had created his own site as well but was getting wailed on by spammers or something. I hope he managed to get that under control and is doing well.

Dude's material taught me a LOT when I was just starting out.

Cheers!

Different Seth. Although the Seth supporting Steam is good too.

The upgrade fro X3 to Splat is absolutely mind blowing ...best upgrade I've made
Hope you feel the same way Roger when you upgrade .

FWIW , I'm not really a This VS That type of guy , yet I do fully understand why some people need to go there .

A month ago I used Dan's Mastering templates the same exact way I have used LANDR since I have gotten LANDR ...

I would take a mix of a song that was very close to being in the ball park as being a good candidate for Mastering and I would use on of Dan's Mastering Templates as a means of Mastering w a small m only because I'm not a Mastering engineer .I would then listen to various versions of my song critically to determine where I may need to make adjustments on my Mix ...
This whole process for me has been very educational and I'm very happy that the Templates are included in SPlat ...

I have also taken individual tracks such as guitar , bass , strings , and synth sounds and ran them through some of Dan's templates and treated the tracks as musical stems just as if I was using something like Ozone to dial things in .Then I would  reintroduce the rendered tracks back into my parent song project and make adjustments to the project accordingly ....
This process has also been very educational for me ...

I may happen to march to the beat of a different drum machine in how I may choose to live my life at least around here  because I'm entirely convinced that LANDR happens to also be a very useful tool that I have enjoyed getting to know and use .

All the chit chat aside , LANDR was in fact part of the most recent SONAR update ...I chose to trust Cakewalk .

Now I can fully empathize with the people that have taken issue with the installation process and the fact that if someone want's to get the most from what  LANDR has to offer they may have to subscribe with some sort of plan.  I get it , I'm not here to argue .....
I wound up going with a monthly low res plan just to find out for my self how useful LANDR would be in my current situation ...I don't eat fast food , but for the price of a happy meal ...I'm in ...I got a month to evaluate ...

So far I'm happy to have my Cake twice over ...Dan's Templates and LANDR ....
Am I now considered unprofessional because I 'm OK w  learning new things and finding out for myself ?

all the best,

Kenny

It's almost embarrassing that he's using Sonitas plugins that in computer life should be old and out dated,  but I like the results.

Don't underestimate software from age alone... (quite a few die-hard Project5 fans here too).

I think in the computer realm "old and outdated" is sort of the expectation we are led to buy into, since the entire market thrives on "new and desirable." If the core functionality does what it should and it will run on newer O/S' (bigger limitation), it is not a real worry as to what it is. Folks don't do GAS back flips over new word processors... they were meant to replace a typewriter, and did so decades ago.

The one I find most bothersome is simple graphic/picture editing on any computer, and have an ancient copy of "Paint Shop Pro 5" that has all the core functionality needed (editing, markups, layers, cloning, etc.). Pales in comparison to Photoshop CC sure, but it does have all of the core features needed and fits on a thumb drive... so always been able to touch up presentation materials on the fly on any machine. Ironically, rather than people say "Ew, what was that?" they more often say "How did you just do that?" (People always tend to be ecstatic when you save their bacon for some reason.)

In some cases, the only difference between old and new is the GUI looks cooler.

Dan Gonzalez [Cakewalk]
Here's how I look at Mastering:

Great Master  < Great Mix < Great Sounds < Great Performances < Great Pre-Production < Great Song

Very well said!

If it's not a great song, performed and arranged well, nothing will make it a great recording.

And if the bare recording doesn't sound at least very good, without any tweaks, effects, or mastering, nothing will make it a great recording.

I've done a fair bit of mastering, but don't consider myself an expert. Still, I think that the mastering process is often over-hyped. If you've got something that's very good, good mastering can make it better. But if anything in your chain is bad, the best mastering in the world isn't going to fix it.
