I do this all the time, as English is not my native language.

Just because you speak English better than Americans, no need to rub it in

But FWIW, often my corrections are because upon re-reading, I realize something may not work for those for whom English is not their native language. Like if I say that something happens "right off the bat," then later realize in Google translate, it might say "correct not on cave-dwelling mammal." So I edit it to say "initially."

I often see I left out a word or made a typo and see this after I press submit post. I try hard to limit my errors but it seems I make more than my allotment.

When someone has subscribed to a thread, which version of the post do they get in email: the initial post or the post-edit-grace-period post?

Meh, another plus for the mobile version of the forum... Don't see the edit comments either.

The comment about the server clock drifting I simply find appalling if true. Especially a system connected to the internet where access to the USNO atomic clock is FREE. Who would actually pay a server who is that inept?

Sir Les
I guess, I am a culpret in this spelling error correction, and editing feen...in some regards...and have had post edits simply corrupt and not get posted....Seems then the forum goes into a odd looking state for me...Just text.
Not sure why..But if it has anything to do with refreshing the forums...I guess over loadiing the refresh has issues with the webmaster, and the systems doing so....Perhaps?.

I guess I qill at the thought...Computers are running all this stuff...I would imagine the fractal of repeat, rinse, and keep it same....until a new pathway can be set...or more resources applied...or...updates are issued..or bugs get fixed...We stand in constant err.

We the sheeple must **** our corrective nature....for two or three minutes..So you can do , do diligence....in returns?

Are we then misundertaken?...or being mislead into err...lol

Just asking.

Cheers.

P.S..fractals are not infinite..(in change to better the whole).they are repeating finite entities....of err.
If one continues with the err...then it is repeating into the new...then the new will contain err....err that is not corrected when found...because of...X...is asking err to be put forward for too long!.

Just saying...we all err...but if we correct our err asap...would it not help make things more of understanding intent, rather than letting err be?....

Just saying how it should be...But now is stated to not do right off the bat....as instruction?.

Wow...the world sure is bent, if this holds true in all things...eh?

Just a quick Q, I would have no preference either way myself, but I am just curious as to why it even matters ? I understand in the instance of someone changing a post in an underhanded manner, but just can't actually see how it matters otherwise ?

Hi Jeff

It doesn't matter that much, it's just that I used to find it convenient to quickly correct the inevitable mistakes quickly and 'cleanly', if you see what I mean.

I remember an English teacher of mine at school always stressed that it should be considered an honour that someone else might want to read what one had written, and as such, it was the least one could do to make one's prose legible and easy to read. Even now, in the age of Facebook, SMS and other media not even dreamt of when I was at school, I still try to write (type!) using proper English grammar and spelling.

I agree with others that suggest that edits made much later to a post should include a sub-note to explain why the post has been edited - to me that's simply good manners, and I've been doing so since I first joined here. It really does go a long way in alleviating the obvious frustrations when someone changes the whole meaning of a post without stating the reasons.

+1
I can't stand when I post something, and then find that I've misspelled a word, or forgotten a period or something. Bring back the two minute grace period.

Edited for spelling!!!
