Why does this matter. Are you scared of what LANDR might do if you do not use it?

There has been confusion by people that think you MUST install it. I'm only trying to help those that feel they don't want it by showing how you can avoid installing it.

Move along. Nothing to see here is you don't care (which there is nothing wrong with).

yeah, i think it's mostly because a 3rd party application (not just a plugin) is installed and configured on your behalf without any warning, and the "enable verbose mode" isn't entirely obvious

anyway, more importantly, why's it called "landr" instead of, say, "squashr" or "louderizr" or "mastr" or something?

I really don't understand some of the negative responses to an added feature. What's wrong with a little LandR peanut butter mixed with your SONAR chocolate?

When I read the announcement, my first thought was a positive one...playing Lunar Lander on my HP-15C back in college engineering classes when I was bored.

Shameless bump to keep it up there with the LandR thread.

For me its a good statement in getting rid of bloatware or as i like to call it "lackofunderstandingmasterware"

I haven't noticed any slow down with cpu power since this latest release with Landr installed.
so im not sure I would call it bloatware.
but with that being said, I try to respect everyone's opinion, so if people feel the need to uninstall it,
by all means have at it. but im not worried about it.

best,
Chuck

I'm not too worried either in the grand scheme of things. But.....Its not a happy marriage for me, like that uploady thing....what was it? That drop box thing that required you to pay money for online space that was very quickly canned.

Although Bapsi's method is exactly how I "did not" install Landr...I'm wondering if ol CCleaner will get rid of all those leftover files and registry entries for those that didn't follow the verbose method?

That would be a manual effort like Google Toolbar.

I create manual Windows restore points before installing new Sonar updates but I think the Sonar installers do as well. So if anyone got caught out unawares of this and want it gone they could check their auto restore points and do a system restore.

That won't (shouldn't) remove any newly written files (like audio tracks or new projects) but will (should) remove the Newburyport update and the LANDR app.

Then you just follow Bapu's advice to reinstall Newburyport with the LANDR thingie unchecked.

Registry cleaners such as CCleaner and RevoUninstaller should work too BUT unless configured/understood properly may not work completely and/or actually remove other items you don't WANT removed... thus screwing up your system. Great programs... but can be a little overzealous.

Fortunately those types of programs also provide an option to create a recovery point before they scrub your system. Problem is you may not notice a problem until much later thus potentially making those recovery points not so desirable (because maybe you've updated other stuff and don't want to go through the process of figuring it all out again) or you don't even KNOW why little weird things are happening just because the cleaner removed something useful months ago.

Just sayin'... reg cleaners are great but know what they are doing first. System Restore gets you back to a previous PROGRAM/Registry state immediately and easily (I put dates and details of what I installed when I create my manual restore points).

System Restore is not to be confused with a System "Image" which will remove any new files as well as programs (a proper snapshot).

Just some extra info for those not familiar with this crap and I described it poorly (I am not a tech). Do your own research before taking drastic measures on your system.

And, Baps... thank you for the thread/images.

I do not use Registry "cleaners".  But, I don't think it would remove the required registry entries.  I uninstalled LANDR with Revo Uninstaller Pro, which has a registry scanning function that looks for program left overs and it didn't find the files.  A manual registry search for "LANDR" was needed to delete them.

I agree that installing it probably doesn't "hurt".  Just the principal, it should have been an optional install.
