But if their business model is supported by third-party adware, at least make that clear and make it possible to fully remove the adware.
I don't disagree with your desire to make LANDR a separate install, but it most certainly is not adware, and it does provide functionality.
Adware, or advertising-supported software, is any software package that automatically renders advertisements in order to generate revenue for its author. The advertisements may be in the user interface of the software or on a screen presented to the user during the installation process.
My take on the situation
* It installs silently in the background possibly with Admin Rights, but at least with rights to my entire account
* When it loads, it promptly open several network connections. hmm.
* The LANDR client is a front-end to up-sell a commercial service
* It cannot be uninstalled without leaving traces behind
While it doesn't fit the exact definition for browser-based adware, it certainly has the operational characteristics of your typical hard-to-get-rid-of adware.
I'm personally disappointed that CW would sneak something with those characteristics onto my system without making it clear ahead of time.
Lesson learned.
