Kenny your experience mirrors mine with Landr. I did pretty much the same experiment as you except I compared the results with my professionally mastered mixes. Landr retained all of the dynamic range (I hate excessive compression) and additionally cleaned up some of the more unpleasant midrange stuff that was in my original mix. With a few exceptions I preferred the Landred versions.

Full disclosure: While trying to decide whether to include LANDR or not, Noel sent me two tunes and said one had been done by a professional mastering engineer, and the other by LANDR, but didn't tell me which was which. I assumed the one with the more squashed dynamic range was LANDR because like many other people in these threads, I assumed it would do a caricature of mastering. Finding out I was wrong was what caused me to investigate further.

WOW , That is pretty cool that you can say that publicly Craig .
That type of full disclosure is like taking the high road and crossing over The Alps

Isn't there anything in SPALT-N other that LANDR?

Depends.  Do you know how to insert a track? :)

Only TWO ways so far : from Menu and Right Click. Should I need to know more?

Just a little Joke Snehankur. The other 'big'  feature in this month's update is a new insert track button that does what we can already do,  just with less efficiency and control than a template and more mouse clicks than the right click method.:)
Probably a handy feature for beginners though.

I would have preferred LANDR as separate install. In the future if Cakewalk bundles an installer like the did this time with LANDR please provide clear instructions on how to avoid installing it or at least a process to remove the product which is more complete than the Windows uninstall process.

PLEASE do this. I am going to wait on this update. I want the option to not install Landr. I don't need it and I don't want to uninstall something that leaves behind bits and pieces. Please, give the option to update Sonar and add Landr is we want it.
Thanks,
J

How about a "Sponsored Content" installation group in Command Center?

I would actually prefer that Cakewalk doesn't sell access to my install via for-pay software such as LANDR, or provide software that cannot being fully uninstalled through the Command Center. But if their business model is supported by third-party adware, at least make that clear and make it possible to fully remove the adware.

I don't disagree with your desire to make LANDR a separate install, but it most certainly is not adware, and it does provide functionality.

Adware, or advertising-supported software, is any software package that automatically renders advertisements in order to generate revenue for its author. The advertisements may be in the user interface of the software or on a screen presented to the user during the installation process.

My take on the situation
* It installs silently in the background possibly with Admin Rights, but at least with rights to my entire account
* When it loads, it promptly open several network connections. hmm.
* The LANDR client is a front-end to up-sell a commercial service
* It cannot be uninstalled without leaving traces behind

While it doesn't fit the exact definition for browser-based adware, it certainly has the operational characteristics of your typical hard-to-get-rid-of adware.

I'm personally disappointed that CW would sneak something with those characteristics onto my system without making it clear ahead of time.

Lesson learned.

Honestly sounds like adware by that definition.  The advertisement is in the name and ezine.  We all now know what LANDAR is because of Sonar's addition of it to the install package, thus the advertisement statement.  Are we to believe this was not added to generate revenue for LANDAR and Sonar?  I'd bet most of us are smarter than that.

No, I'm sure it is not fully funded by the adds, as many people think of adware.  But it is advertisement none the less, and there is money tied to this advertising even if it is hidden from public knowledge of the arrangement.

You can do this now.  Just download the update yourself from your account, run the installer in windows not the CCC, and uncheck LANDR during install.  Note that I haven't done it yet, but others have.  I'm still waiting for the dust to settle.

Or enable "Verbose Install" on the Command Center settings page before running the update. This will provide the same prompt as a manual install.
