Yeah you could do it before but with the spotlight on Melodyne, we thought it might be cool to show it again.

Very Cool indeed! I had no idea we could do this and I could have saved a bunch of money... (spotlight moving away from Melodyne...)
 
The detection results are somewhat different from Melodyne and appears somewhat more accurate for complex polyphonic material. I just tried this on a Rhodes suitcase and it does not seem to be as sensitive to the tine overtones resulting in a more accurate translation.

Under the hood it's using Melodyne to do this...we simplified the process though and you don't have to open Melodyne to perform this action.

This is pretty amazing, and I also wasn't aware this was possible.  I tried in the past to convert audio to midi with V-Vocal but that didn't work well at all.  This works really well.
 
How long have we been able to just drag an audio clip onto an Instrument track and have it convert to midi ?

So if I only had the Essential version, that came with Sonar, I would not have been able to convert a polyphonic track?
