  • Strange New Problem In Sonar Professional

I'm throwing this one out there in hopes that someone can puzzle this one out for me. A couple months ago, rather suddenly, a new issue came up. When I record an audio track I can see a  waveform and hear the audio as it records. When I hit stop, however, the waveform disappears leaving a flatline and no audio, or it's replaced by a loud and very offensive screeching squelch. This happens on any pair of inputs, and when using my POD X3 Live on inputs 7/8, or Blue Tube on inputs 3/4. Playback is otherwise normal except on the affected audio track. I can record MIDI with no problem.
I can record via the Scarlett Solo USB route. I am able to record and play back audio normally in Studio One
My sound card is a Delta 1010LT. I don't recall which Sonar update I was using when the problem occurred, but it has persisted through at least a couple of updates.
I originally thought my sound card was the problem, but given that I can play and record normally in Studio one seems to rule that out. I have been over and over the settings to see if there had been some subtle change, but I can find nothing amiss. This just seems to happen in Sonar.
I will buy a Twinkie for the person that can figure this one out. You guys have always had great input (no pun intended), so I'm confident you can help me solve this one.
Thank you in advance.

By the way, I'm using Professional, latest update installed today. M-Audio Delta 1010LT card, Presonus BlueTube and Focusrite Scarlett Solo USB and Line 6 POD X3 Live interfaces. Windows 10, 8gb memory, 2.4 ghz dual core processor.

I would agree that your being able to see the waveform and being able to hear the audio during recording would rule out your soundcard, etc. as being the source of the problem. (I'm assuming here that you are monitoring audio via Sonar and not by some zero latency/direct monitoring feature of your sound card). That the problem occurs after you stop recording suggests that you are correct that it is something in the way you have Sonar set-up. Have you tried setting up a very simple project? Maybe a single audio track with the input set to your 1010 and the track output set to "none", and nothing else in the project, just to see whether you can successfully capture the audio. Assuming you have been through all of the relevant audio set-up options, perhaps the old "delete aud.ini" thing still has some effect this far into the 21st Century.

BTW, what is a Twinkie?

What happens if you disconnect all but one of your 4 interfaces?

What is a Twinkie??? I'm stunned! A Twinkie is a small oblong shaped cake formerly made by Hostess. Maybe they don't have them in your neck of the woods.
I will try your suggestion at first opportunity. Thank you very much for your reply.

Jonesey, the problem still occurs. I thought maybe the Scarlett wasn't playing nice with the other children, but I've tried every combination I could think of. Thank you for the response, boss.

Nope! Twinkies not sold here (except maybe at specialist import stores). The nearest we have is Twink, which would represent an entirely different commodity, and as human trafficking would no doubt be involved, I urge you not to award such a prize.

That's what I was wondering, too. The OP doesn't say whether all four soundcards are connected simultanoeusly,
which would mean ASIO driver can't be used, which again is the most recommendable one.

Hi. As mentioned by the others here, I would use only one Audio Interface at the time. This might be your issue. Use one at the time, and use ASIO driver mode (where possible).
All the best.

Yes it's not quite as simple as unplugging them, you'll have to disable them inside Sonar (and maybe in Device Manager as well)

For now I recommend you start by just using the Focusrite
