Hey guys,

So I have run into this new problem where when I load a sample, like Hollywood Strings Gold, it will work fine. But then, once I hit the "play" button the first time, it will play what I recorded just fine. Once I hit "stop" I can no longer hear the sample when hitting "play" or when playing live on my keyboard. I then have to reload the sample within PLAY VST for it to work only once and then the same problem happens again.  This appears to only happen with the samples related to EastWest's collection but only a few do this.

I have tried updating to the latest version of PLAY (the plugin that is provided by EastWest), but this did not work.

Anyone know what would cause this? Here are my specs:

Soundcard:
Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 USB 2.0 Audio Interface (External)

Keyboard:
M Audio Keystation61 (tried using both USB and regular MIDI in/out hookups)

Software:
Cakewalk Sonar X1
Latest version of PLAY installed

PC:
Windows 8.1
32 GB RAM
Intel i7 3.4 ghz 6 Core

Thanks for the help!

Have you unchecked 'zero midi controllers on stop' under midi options for the project? Often this will cause the volume of particular samplers to zero out when the project is stopped.

What Bruce says.    Some instruments require a particular CC, like CC1 or CC11 or CC7, to be at a high enough value to produce sound.   When Sonar zeros them, and there is no CC in the track to reset, then you get no sound.   And often the instrument has a reasonable default set internally, but after the first play it is over-ridden by sonar's reset to zero.    Another default I wish Sonar would take away ...  under Edit - Preferences - Project - Midi (and you can't get to that unless a particular project is loaded ...)

All I have to say is a big THANK YOU! :D  You have no idea how much this made my day when this actually worked.  I feel like hope has been restored in the universe.  Thanks again.

My project templates for HO all have cc1 and cc11 initialized values stored in the template at the beginning of each track. That way I know each track starts with a known value. Just a thought.

Ditto - I've always done that for GPO.
