  • What's up with the March 31 upgrade offer moved to the end of Feb? (p.3)

Well I just hope this wasn't a data entry where a low level employee gets the axe because they um, entered data wrong and gets fired because this effects revenue projections.
We are dealing with a mega huge corporation which by no means should be confused with Wal-Mart (another problem entirely, just on another scale and plain of existence).

Please note that I'm playing a Strat in my profile pic. It's not that I don't like Gibson's, they are priced out of the range of us people who USED to be what was once considered the middle class.
One of my favorite guitars of all times was my mid 60's Gibson SG. Not even close to as durable or versatile as my "older" Fender Strat, but I loved it anyway, and I have never EVER played a Les Paul I didn't like.

That being said, I've used Cakewalk since "Pro Audio 9" and bragged about it, as well as how Cakewalk staff always participated and chimed in at this very forum, but didn't see that happen in this thread.

Or did I miss something?

Well one thing is for sure is I personally won't be a SONAR "subscription" evangelist anymore, it's seems to be Cakewalk is getting to big to fail or so they think, and that's getting outright embarrassing in other forums I participate very regularly in.

I chimed in on another thread. This was an error and we gave notice last week so customers would know. We don't have the too big to fail attitude. That's not even close to it. We are very fair with pricing and contribute a lot to this forum as well. We like communicating with customers and getting feedback. We also work very hard on customer satisfaction and obviously we've been improving the product every month.

While it is possible to pay $149... no one is forced. Online stores near always have reduced price.

Encouraging, though I would prefer to get it from Cakewalk - If I wish to .... "no one is forced"

It is still not the end of Feb, hard to call that "Last moment".

You missed the "?" mark. I wanted to mean it as relative. 1 day, 1 week, 1 month all can be last moment depending on the capability of on. For me it was One month.

"Expiring soon or later" means they was not early adopters (all of them have it expired now). And I guess initial plan was to make the discount for that category (so with more than 1 month grace period, Sonar 2015 was released in Jan).

I agree. But no being an early adopter is not a sin.

In membership model you pay for fixed period you get updates AND features. That does not include fixes after that period for free.

There one question has come in my mind and I couldn't find an answer.
Suppose I am not an early adopter and my subscription finishes in 6 months time. And I choose not to pay further. After this 6 months will I have a bug free SONAR Platinum staying on my PC? If so, at what point I should stop installing newer releases? As if I install a current version they will introduce new bug and fixes of some earlier bugs.
If I am happy with bug free Manchester (for example) and after 6 months of updates I revert back to earlier version they will introduce back the present bugs again, if I am not wrong.

So is it an ongoing process of subscription that you cannot quit or stop and be happy with what you have unless you accept to stay compromised with bugs?

I conclude with what I had said earlier:
"All these discussion wouldn't have come up if the date  was not changed or accepted the extension back, no one would be in a position to say anything. Somewhere in some forum I have seen about the legal issue of advertising and Federal Law etc etc. But I feel time to time interaction by Cakewalk Team made the users feel as team members not customers and many of the users are psychologically attached to Cakewalk."

Anyway I am not going to leave Cakewalk. It took more than 22 years of struggle to come back to music and Cakewalk.

After 6 months you will have access to all the releases you received, fully functional. You can always rollback at any point in Command Center.

Speaking for myself and no one cares what I say anyway...
My decision to upgrade was made by one thing only... Cakewalk, after saying we had until March 29th to upgrade "False advertised" and changed the date to Feb 28, not even of the end of the month. I have to wonder if they even know this is a leap year...  This is truly pathetic!

I will go back to upgrading when I feel like it and NOT because I'm being manipulated to do so!

I don't blame the bakers or the CW faces we see on this forum, I'm sure they feel embarrassed just showing their faces here!

"IMO" as always...

Not embarrassed at all. Not all offers end on the last day of the month. They vary. We are aware of the leap year. We mostly likely will keep the offer up an extra day for anyone who misses it. We typically do this with all our offers. I am sorry you fee like you are being manipulated. We've done special offers like these all the time. Many times we extend them. This is one of the first times I can remember ending it soon. All offers are always subject to change. It's on our email at the bottom. Regardless, we put together a pretty reasonable renewal offer for customers and there will be over 6 weeks to take advantage of it. A lot of companies only offer flash sales or much smaller time periods.

On Cakewalk side I will extend the deadline for the whole year. But on Cakewalk side I will mark the extension not from the payment day but from previous membership end date I mean the last year there was no "members only" content and I do not see they are going to change that this year. "Skipping" several months has close to no consequences, except possible delay in receiving the equal number of updates as soon as they have published (and not everyone is installing them immediately to avoid new bugs in current setup).

I am sure Cakewalk is going to "tune" the membership model with time. They have already understood that "the value" of this year is in general lower then for the last year (and so have adjusted initial prolongation price). May be they have also understood that with a plan to release new update in Mar. they should increase prolongation price before that.

So I repeat. If someone had a plan to "prolong" end of Mar, either he/she is not an "early adopter" or is not a member now. In some respect that is a "trick" to pay less. And in this case Cakewalk has right to "trick" back...

Problems with real errors in advertisements, like with XLN last time, Cakewalk is solving as it should.

I don't think the value of this year is going to be lower. We have some exciting stuff in store for 2016. Beyond what we've listed.

It is very tolerant of you to chime in Andrew - my response to the self obsessed  whining would have been entirely different. Reading this thread you would think that ending the sale will lead to starving children and global warming.   For the love of dogs it is just a discount price folks -  buy it now or get over it!  Jeez.

Thank you for responding Andrew and I hope I didn't cause you too much personal grief, and I really appreciate and have the ultimate respect for your work and contributions in making this probably one of the world's best support forums of any software.

I would also like to point out that I feel that SONAR is the absolute hands down "Best Value For the Buck", and an excellent DAW and will never stop using it.

How ever, I am less than satisfied with the subscription plan, especially when I received notice from Cleaverbridge about a $5 rate hike per month.
I was somewhat peeved when I tried to simply buy out of the rental plan with no provision to get any money back on the months I had already paid into.
That being said I'm happy with what I got from Platinum, comfortable with doing tracking work with a stable X3 and mixing in Platinum, and don't really feel the need to upgrade.
