But come to think of it...the thread title is here we go again. How can one post be again? Are we dealing with a truly existential quandary here? Did the OP travel backward in time in order to post this? We may never know.

There's been a rash of books over the last few years by producers and engineers. Some of the real greats. Glyn Johns. Ken Scott. Nile Rodgers. I'm a big fan of these books.

And I've really noticed a common theme. All of the real masters of the craft got their start by downloading a demo of something, giving it 20 minutes, and thinking "screw this". In all cases, the seed of the dedication to the craft, the understanding of the toil and commitment it would take, was planted in that moment.

Hahaha -  that's  hilarious John!

On a personal note I am going to miss this guy.  I feel as though I hadn't really gotten to know him.

You know, if the guy comes back, I'll honestly have no hard feelings. But if you START with "goodbye", well, you're more than asking, you're demanding, to not be taken seriously.

Any time he's got a real question, he'd be in the right forum to get a real answer.

I do like Beep's idea... these hit and runs are ridiculous...I assume it's other daws or some wack job thinking it's  their mission in life doing adverse advertising... I'd love a "Please PM me if you have a serious question and we'll unlock this thread"

It's too difficult to not be pulled into this kind of bullcrap. And I'd rather the humor surface in real threads...

The OP would never see a PM sent to him, as he has a post count lower than the minimum threshold set by the forum software.

When someone initiates an "It's not me, it's YOU, so Bye Bye" thread, the 2 choices are:

1.  Give them the benefit of the doubt, that maybe they are just SUPER frustrated, and thought that using a full-featured professional recording software suite would be easier, and have a few of us post messages encouraging the OP to expand on the issues they are having, with valid and sincere assurances that the collective experiences of the forum folks, in addition to available Cakewalk Support options, would most likely help guide them through understanding how to resolve their show-stopping issues - whether that be work-around suggestions, actual issue solving, helping them to get in contact with technical support or other Cakewalk staff, etc.  For this scenario to work, it requires a willingness of the OP to invest time and effort into working through the issues, and I believe it also is greatly helped by the collective forum showing some initial restraint and attempting to draw the OP into meaningful discussion and analysis of the issues.

2.  Nah...... This choice is the "They shouldn't have started a thread like that, let's GET HIM/HER", or, "The Nuclear Option" option.  This is where we collectively come up with really inventive and sometimes bitter or even angry - though mostly fairly humorous ways of blasting the OP or the OP's thread.  This can stretch a thread out for days, and generally if this option is chosen, there is little to no chance of it ever turning back into a productive thread.

It is possible that a thread such as this could be posted at the end of a late-night brutal session, where for some reason they were embarrassed in front of a client or whatever, and they might not come back to the thread for the better part of a day.  They may well read their initial post and rethink it and possibly end up being willing to engage to resolve.  It also might not happen, and it really could have been their swan song out of here post.

Since we can't sometimes know if the OP would respond to requests for them to engage in the thread - by folks sincerely willing to work hard to help them, it would overwhelmingly, in my opinion, be worth giving the OP a few positively-themed responses, to give the OP an opportunity to maybe give the forum folks a shot at rendering assistance.  It HAS happened, and it also has NOT happened, but because of the possibility of retaining a potential eventual happy camper, I believe it is a better approach to it all to put some offers of help out there, and also give the OP some time to reflect on the situation.  If they don't come back or are argumentative or that sort of thing - then well, I would think they would be a bit of fair game.

But how about we resist the Nuclear Option for a reasonable number of hours, or better part of a day, unless the OP is truly vile, and see if we can get a couple of those folks to understand that we CAN collectively be of proper help and assistance to them?

Thank you Craig and Zarrg for not immediately attacking the OP, and giving him the benefit of the doubt.
The rest that went on the offensive within the hour would do well to just ignore threads like this.
The OP may have tried Sonar in the past, it didn't work for him then (or he was blasted off the forum) and he tried it again to see if Plat would work. We know absolutely NOTHING about the OP, why speculate with such negativity?
I know you have seen it before, BUT, this forum is very intimidating for brand new users that don't know the protocol. Seems like many posters assume everyone should be well versed in forum etiquette before they post their first thread. Try to remember we were ALL newbies once.
As Craig, Zarrg and Beep did, try to solicit more info. If the OP never returns, let it die.
There really is NO benefit to Cake, Sonar, or anyone else when we attack a poster. It only makes this forum look uninviting and hostile.

Actually, we have plenty of brand new users coming in here who are given a warm welcome and assistance for any issues they have, but the reason they're successful in their interactions is because they ask for help. They don't draw attention to themselves because their only motivation is to solve a problem and get back to making music, so the forum responds in kind and they fall off the radar.

Overall I think this forum is extremely generous with offering assistance, but there's less incentive to do so if the person starts off by saying they have a problem and for whatever reason, don't show interest in finding a solution. I'd say the only protocol is to be at least somewhat polite.

That said, I'd love to see him come back and explain what his "small glitch" was so it could be solved, but I'd bet money he will never return. And to answer his primary complaint, it makes no sense for a company to offer support to people trying out demos. It's not fair for paying customers to cover the costs of people who are using the software for free, especially since there is online help available in the program, this forum, and search engines.

We certainly don't need to be mean-spirited of course, and benefit of the doubt is a good thing because sometimes it is in fact justified. But after seeing enough of the drive-by 1-post rants, it's not surprising the community gets a little cynical about the motivations.

Most folks wouldn't plan 5 years for a hit-and-run, so there is a deeper story to the OP. The folks here who blindly attack others need to do some serious introspection... Potential customers would most likely be reading the forum to get a feel for the place before purchasing.

Food for thought anyway.
