Hey all,

I've been having a really annoying problem with my DAW computer. The last few weeks, I haven't been using it as much because Windows 7 Pro 64 bit keeps trying to apply 8 critical updates. It will install them reboot and apply the changes get about 15% complete and then screw up saying failed to do something or ever and then it reverts the changes and then tries to do the same thing the next time I start Windows.

I don't have the luxury of having multiple computers to have a dedicated DAW so internet connectivity isn't optional. But I consider it important to stay patched especially security patches, so I wondered if any one has any input?

I tried searching online for solutions, I tried some microsoft fix thing which every time I try it.. it says it fixes something and to try updating now, and ofcourse it doesn't fix it. I read somewhere on some windows 7 forum that it might have something to do with file permissions but I don't see how. Someone else said they only way to fix it was to reinstall windows,

I really do not want to have to re-install windows it'd be a frig'n pain to have to re-install all the programs, it would take a good 3 days straight to probably get it back up to where it was.

Oh I've also tried to go back using system restore, and that always fails too.

I've tried disabling my antivirus.. I've tried everything i can think of and nothing works.

I do have a disk image somewhere but it's not recent at all. It's probably at least 6 months old. Anyways...

I welcome input!

Do you have the option of selecting which updates to install?  That would be the best way, only select one update and install that, if it goes OK you can do another, and when you get to the one that causes the failure you can work on resolving that one.

Since system restore doesn't work, that suggests Operating System problems that are deeper than just not able to install updates.

There was a thread on this somewhere in these forums.

IIRC you can install the 1st 4 but the next 4 you need to install by themselves.  This is what was recommended also in MS forums.

And it worked for me.

Cheers,
Jerry
