So it seems I'm not alone...I'm curious though, the Focusrite Sapphires are commonplace in home studios...has anyone out there experienced a crash and NOT had to wait 5-10 minutes to restart SONAR?

I run an older Saffire (PRO26IO) and on the extremely rare occasions when I've had a crash, the driver is released immediately.

I've had fairly common crashes with all versions of sonar no matter which interface I used at the time and no release of the drivers

Yes, there have been a couple of threads regarding the Melodyne issue and the buffer setting warning. From what I recall (and I may be incorrect, so if someone else can remember please chime in), Melodyne themselves have been contacted and have stated that it is an issue they are aware of and most can ignore this. I used to get that exact same message all the time, never had an issue, although my buffers are set way lower than those asked for, and then one day it just went away and never came back. I thought it had been fixed by either Cakewalk or Melodyne.

I still get the odd crash where I cannot reopen Sonar without a reboot, but it's rare. I would like to think Cakewalk is working on this because those crashes, for me at least, are happening less. Also, I think the latest firmware and driver updates for my OctaCapture have had an impact on this (most of the time now I can just restart Sonar).
I'm not sure Cakewalk is entirely to blame for this issue. I think if Sonar were the "industry standard DAW" then this type of behaviour wouldn't be quite so prevalent. (Just a thought)

Sonar Platinum also doesn't like you to leave it open and idle for any length of time...I had it on all night , came in this morning, closed the current session, and now it's sitting there spinning. Very annoying!

I used to have the "not-release-drivers" issue a lot with the Roland Quad Capture, but this was also pre-Platinum SONAR so I don't know which was responsible. Since switching to the new TASCAM interfaces and  SONAR Platinum last January I've had maybe 4-5 freezes, but did not have driver release problems. I don't know whether that's because I'm lucky, I use SONAR almost every day so these issues worked themselves out, or whether there's some setting in Windows or preferences I'm not aware that prevents it from happening.

Based on forum posts over the years, it seems either you have this problem a lot, or you don't have it at all. I wish I could isolate the difference.

If you haven't done this already, go into Device Manager and make sure the USB ports aren't in a power-saving mode, but are left on permanently.

Since going to Platinum...the crashes started...Sonar locks up, seemingly for no reason. I can't kill it in task manager and it blows out my Roland Octa Capture. The Roland unit completely disappears from both the Sonar selection window and in Windows itself. (Drivers reinstalled and current)

I usually work on pretty big projects...lot's of vst instruments, midi, effects ect.
Most recently it did this with just one stereo track open and one instance of TRacks....

Work comes to a stand still and I have no recourse but to reboot. I've sent in the crash report on several ocassions (it doesn't always come up) and never hear back.

Been with Cakewalk since the the Sonar 3 days and can't ever remember having this many crashes.

I will be back reving to Ipswich because it seems to crash the least....

If Sonar crashes on me I open Propellerhead's Reason and then close it. Sonar will have released the driver and will boot up again. I'm pretty sure it doesn't have to be Reason so some other DAW will probably have the same effect.

This is interesting, I'll have to try that next time I get a crash!

Hi - this applies to all of the USB HUBS - the Power Management tab will not be present on a regular USB port - just on each hub.

Also - is it possible that BitBridge or JBridge is present in memory when these hangs occur?  This used to be quite common when folks ran 32-bit plugins in a 64-bit project - not only did Sonar frequently crash then, but it would also get hung up and not release from memory.  Next time this happens, please go into Task Manager and see if either BitBridge or JBridge is running, and if so, you might want to go through and ferret out what 32-bit plugs are loaded in the project, and possibly swap out those plugs for 64-bit versions or alternatives.

Good clue. Come to think of it, almost all the plug-ins I use these days are 64-bit. It's also interesting that MGC59 is having problems with an Octa-Capture, which was the interface I was using when having similar issues.
