Please detail the settings for your Focusrite interface - Sample Rate and ASIO Buffer Size, and also please detail from Sonar, it's Sample Rate and the various ASIO-reported latency values (Edit>Preferences>Audio>Driver Settings and then the ASIO Reported Latency values shown below the ASIO Control Panel button).

Thanks,

I don't think this is fully relevant at this time, because my computer doesn't even recognize the Scarlett ("USB device malfunctioned and Windows can't recognize it") except right after a system reboot. Then it goes away again if I bring up Sonar and try to play something through it.

I've have talked to Focusrite Support out here on the West Coast.
They've always been there for me the couple times I've had to contact them.

Thank you, Tunerman. I'll try that contact info.

A general fyi: I have now also tried installing the Scarlett on a second computer.
Result of the installation process was: "Device driver was not successfully installed. Please consult with your device manufacturer..."

Soundwise
What do you use in your project? What VSTis? When the Sonar crashes you should be seeing a pop-up window with OS report, stating what particular module or DLL is causing that crash.

FIXED!
I don't know why this root-cause problem happened, but apparently an attempt to "update the firmware" on Scarlett in a previous session failed, and that's what caused the cascading problems with the Scarlett. I just spent about half an hour on the phone with David Joyner at Focusrite's technical support - thanks for the contact info, Tunerman.
David talked me through a whole bunch of steps, including going to some "places" on my computer where I'd never been before (and some dark places where I HAD been before)... we uninstalled/reinstalled drivers (again), made other tweaks that I probably couldn't reproduce now, then successfully did a firmware update on the Scarlett, and now... IT WORKS!!!
I'm creating a System Restore Point in Windows right now...

Nice Glad you got it working.
All the best.

Would you consider editing the thread title, since it looks like the crashes were due to the firmware issues, and maybe not so much caused by Platinum?

In any case - VERY happy for you that this got resolved. :)

Glad you got it sorted out!  Sometimes all this tech stuff is so frustrating......
Anyway, glad I could help out.
